Right. So hence my question.
When did we decide that the threat of severe thunderstorms warranted shutting down broad geographic swaths of businesses, governments, schools, etc? No one has been able to answer why this has suddenly become a thing in the past few years.
Unfortunately, we've seen tornadoes hit schools and businesses in the middle of the day. Probably the most well-known example is Enterprise High School in Enterprise, AL getting hit by an EF-4 tornado on March 1, 2007 killing nine people. That really changed how schools view it. Now we see more early dismissals. Whether that is the correct decision, I can't say, but that's just how it is.

I thought you said the entire state of Louisiana was shut down?

What do you mean the "entire state of Louisiana shouldn’t have closed today"?
I meant the literal state of Louisiana, as in the government.

Were all LA state agencies closed?
I went to Wildlife and Fisheries in Baton Rouge and they were closed. Sign on door "closed due to weather".
What a pain- I drove from Metairie only to find out that my tax dollars were used to give a holiday.
