I don’t have much to add other than thoughts and prayers for everyone impacted by this outbreak. I live in PA and we get maybe a watch once every other year so I can’t relate too much to what all of you experience seemingly every spring and sometimes winter. But I’m always intrigued by the storm threads and all of the expertise many of you have.

that's not true; well, no one who knows has said 100 dead at the factory; there were supposedly 100 people who should have been there at the time, but no one has confirmed any death count yet, including the governor, who should know.

I think a number of people are taking what the Kentucky Governor said out of context and it's leading to a confusing relay of information

it's like the telephone game from when you were a kid

I know he does, but I've paid attention over the past couple years. The amount of things that are Tweeted to him and only him irks me. I'm not talking about the 10,000 sunset pics a day that he gets. I'm talking about an active tornado that a random person catches a pic or video of that they then tweet to Spann, but no one else.

That tweet needs to go the the NWS office first and then the local outlets, then Spann.

The only motivation I can come to for people doing that is so that James will retweet their pic or video.

The Lee Initiative, based out of Louisville, is sending a coalition of local food trucks down to feed residents and first responders in the Mayfield area. They’re super legit and it’ll put food in mouths directly in Western Kentucky.

The best thing about these local organizations is that they will be there when the initial wave of support and interest fades. They'll be there for the long haul.

going back through things...

it looks like the 1st tornado warning on that long track cell came out from NWS Little Rock at 7:01 PM CST and the genesis of the polygon was essentially Mayflower, Ark.

last warning on that storm that I can find (and I may be wrong) was issued at 3:23 AM CST by NWS Louisville and the farthest east city marked in the polygon is Union City, Ky.

I am a dumbass for posting before double checking info, my bad. Thanks for clearing it up.

NWS Little Rock @NWSLittleRock
Structural damage has been reported just north of Augusta (Woodruff Co). This was one of the first areas hit by the storm that tracked through at least four states last night. We plan to survey damage in that area today.

Here's a still image taken from a video that was recorded last night near Union City, TN. Look at how many tornadoes were on the ground at the same time. I've never seen anything like this before.

Winter outbreaks are quite normal for the South. There was an F4 that hit Tuscaloosa back on December 16, 2000 as part of a 24-tornado outbreak. And, as has already been noted, there were a pair of F5 tornadoes that hit the United States in December of 1953 and 1957 respectively.

An F4 hit Bossier City on December 3, 1978, killing two young girls sleeping in their bedrooms.

But, do the local NWS offices retweet messages? I don't see that too often.
Weather Nation will do so. So, perhaps that is a viable account to send tweets to.

That’s pretty terrifying. I can’t imagine seeing the lightning light it up, and no apparent shift so it’s probably heading straight toward you. Also, I wonder how the Quad-State Tornado stacks up compared to the Tri-State Tornado. This has to be one of the most devastating outbreaks we’ve seen since 2011.

it depends on whoever is running the NWS office's twitter page

I've been retweeted a couple times before by the NWS Lake Charles office

No.

They need structural engineers to determine the rating on that one. Probably in quite a few spots along the path.
