My catholic faith tells me I should care about all of God's children without judgment. It could be me who is homeless one day.

This morning I watch two purported homeless guys almost come to blows over which one was entitled to stand in a particular spot where traffic comes off the connection. Cussing and pointing and vulgarity abounding. It takes me a couple of cycles to get to the light, where I find myself the first car, right next to the guy who won the argument (by trying to hit the other guy with his backpack). He stands outside my window with his cardboard sign giving me the most pitiful puppy dog face.

I'm like, F this guy.

I struggle with the same thing. I am sure this isn't the right thing to do but if I notice the same person in the same place over time, I lose my sympathy and feel no remorse for not giving them anything.

That was a great story. Tell it again.

There was one guy in Houston, with one leg, I gave to once a week.

He only had one leg so I felt sorry for him.

Got to know his name and a little about him. He seemed really happy someone took an interest, money aside.

But otherwise, I don't give.

Had one guy in Houston last week knocking on my window and so perplexed why I wouldn't give him money. In some weird mind game he then started to try to give me a dollar.

There was one lady near the Costco on Carrollton for over a year with the same sign: "homeless and pregnant"

I always wondered how this worked. I figured the hobos have turf like gangs.

If they are able bodied, nothing.

I go back and forth too. I've given a dollar here and there to the ones I really feel like need it, but many times I'll pull up to a light and think, "this able bodied frick needs to get a job"

No reason to be torn. By being what amounts to professional beggars these guys are choosing to be homeless (or at least appear that way). I don't see my faith as wanting me to aid someone in their desire to live off handouts instead of work for a living.

My fav is the old black guy who stands at the corner of St. Charles & Nashville. That guy lives nowhere near there and pretends like he can barely walk. Guy rides his bike to that locations every now and then. He leaves his litter behind too.

With today's society there are too many ways to not be homeless.

There are an abundance of options if someone truly needs help and wants to change their life.

Thing is most of the people standing there with their hand out don't want to change their life bad enough. All the sympathetic people enable them to simply hold out their hand to make money. So that's what they do.

I think of them as addicts and giving them money would do more harm than good.

I know this isn't true of all of them but that's how I roll.

I only give them $ if they have an obvious, indisputable handicap.

I'm gonna give you a serious, faith-based answer.

Jesus did not stop and help every beggar he passed on his journeys in his mission.

You don't need to either.

Your gifting should be generous, thoughtful and from the heart. No need to feel any guilt of you choose to pass.

I give to a mission or related charity. I never give directly to the homeless.

Say a prayer for him and move on. Give to homeless charity.

I usually throw some change out in the intersection so they have to work for it if they really want it.
