People get themselves reprimanded or course corrected and in some cases fired...there is a right way and wrong way to approach such things and being a jerk is not one of them...if the reasoning is sound for the intervention why be a jerk?

Like what he means Paige in our industry is you have to deal with laziness and people just not wanting to work. But see I'm middleman so I get heat from the Customers about the laziness of the people moving my freight.
For instance, I had a driver on a hot load who had to go Iowa to CA and that fricker was moving 400 miles a day "Wide open" as he said
Let's just say they ate a grand worth of late charges but I had to hear for 2 days the bitching coming from the lady this product was going to. They kept 2 guys over night to take a load off that never showed up until the next afternoon. Was not a good morning to walk into the office.
I got on the phone with the driver and laid into him. That carrier line will no longer haul our freight.
Yet there are some instances I got "Bob" from Albany able to truck all night and get a 1k mile trip done in like 19 hours... Those people, I like to pay. I call them when I get similar loads to see if they are in the area and want to do my stuff again

When at work, its time to work and if you screw around, you"ll feel the wrath.
Outside of work is the time for friendship and such.

You work in Mandeville representing an office in Memphis for a company that's centered in I think Kansas City. That's my guess at least

I live in Arkansas
Anyways, now lets get down to business. What we hauling? Send me over a bid sheet and I'll get it back to ya

I'm in the same industry, deal with that shite daily.
I once had a customer call to bitch because a driver had backed up to a dock, fell asleep in his sleeper, had a heart attack and died at the loading site. She called to bitch that we should send healthier drivers, nevermind some poor guy had just died 15 minutes prior.
Suggestions for dealing? I've recently considered becoming an alcoholic, in my 10 years of doing this I've yet to find a better option.

Im an EHS Manager (Safety guy) and I would much rather they think I am an a-hole, than them get hurt or die. I do not have guilt.
My job says A + B = C and if they are not doing A or B to get to C, I say something. Simple as that.

I try to be patient with people, but only for so long. If they start giving me shite because I'm giving them shite. I'll go off. Because my shite giving is warranted. I will tell people that they suck and should maybe think about another career field.

you do not have to be a jerk.
have scruples. have compassion.
DO UNTO OTHERS AS YOU WOULD HAVE THEM DO UNTO YOU.
Actually, Do unto others as Jesus would do unto them. Grow a pair.

A huge part of my jobs to be a dick when it's called for. Sometimes I'm asked to try and break people down to see if they can handle the stress. Sometimes it's much harder than others and occasionally people will be fired for failing to handle it.
But my mindset is this. If you can't handle stress with me, how can you handle stress in a live environment with huge consequences on the line.

Quality Manager- I have to make sure everybody in all departments are doing there jobs as per written procedures and customer specs.
When somebody doesn't follow procedure and it found by auditors it's ultimately my problem to fix.
I write them up and retrain. Too many write ups cost them money and job security. I don't bullshite them. Many tried to backstab me at first. My boss knows I have my arse covered in every instance . I'm hated and I love it.

I don't have any guilt. Let me ask my wife - she is my designated hatchet woman. And from what I've been told she can be a real bitch. But don't quote me on that. She might can me.

Two different types of firing...for performance or force reduction...
If it's performance, I make sure I give them every chance to improve and make sure they know the consequences of not...usually don't feel guilty about that...laying people off is different but just rationalize that it is your job and its either do that or you won't be successful...and that is motivating to me.
Also, don't get close to people that report to you...unless you own your own business...it makes the difficult conversations that more difficult.
