That's probably because you're not generally a lazy POS anyway.

I'd like to see the percentage of spending allocated to each category. Is each coming in at around 5% or is 15% of food stamp money being spent on soft drinks?

Soft drinks and candy are the only things that stand out as egregious to me. There is no nutritional value in either product.

What are the requirements to have perpetual never-ending SNAP benefits? Just call and renew or what?

Do you have to have looked for work to be eligible? Seems like people are on it for eons....then get accustomed to it so they never get off.

Why are people on SNAP buying bottled water? Ridiculous

Live in a place with rusty pipes, homeless, can’t pay water bill, etc.

Bottled water is cheap as frick too.

I’d bet the vast majority buying it don’t live under any of those conditions, just like the vast majority buying it without SNAP. It’s a convenience item for most people. Get a cup, drink from faucet. And some of it is cheap, some is not. But clean water is readily available to well over 95% of people if not closer to 99%.

Don't let them buy Dasani

The random brands at walmart are cheap as frick.

Water, which no one will argue, is essential to survival. You can't eliminate water from food stamps, even if most of the people have access to clean running water.

18 should not be eligible for my taxes to buy for the lazy. There is a French brand that is cheap and they can swill it all day. It is called faw-cette. The last E is silent.

Again, cheap as shite, not unhealthy when black or with milk, and combats laziness. Also helps curb cravings and can assist in weight loss.

Giving this can be a win for both sides.
It is not a necessary nutritional item. It is more of a luxury.

Most of the items included on that list will make you fat, stupid and lazy. That’s a recipe for disaster for low income households. It makes disrupting the cycle of poverty nearly impossible. I believe in accountability on an individual level above all else, but I understand how many are entrapped by the convenience of poor choices. We as a society need to demand better from our governmental systems controlling the food supply.

The OP's list conforms to data from Exhibit A-1 to a USDA 2016 report that is based on purchases in 2011.

USDA

"This study uses calendar year 2011 point-of-sale transaction data from a leading grocery retailer to examine the food choices of SNAP and non-SNAP households ."

USDA Report Appendix

So who knows if this 15 year old data is still good?

In the report appendix, the only food category that exceeds 5% of SNAP spending is soft drinks. I hope that number has gone down.

Looks like ~ 20 people in this thread have access to SNAP.

You are bastards.

Numbers 1and 2 are actually alcohol and cigarettes. Well known that they’re easily purchased for half value.

No such thing as unscannable… the retailer could let you buy a car with EBT… it’s if they could get reimbursed for it or not

The issue is that SNAP is to assist that 5% or less who really struggle. BR Water will absolutely turn it off for non payment, so bottled water is the least of my worries with food stamps. Water is vital to life.

The system is supposed to keep people alive, not happy. Basic food items plus water, that's it IMO.

SNAP is supposed to supplement the family's grocery budget.

Mom can buy whatever she wants to with her own money, but SNAP should be restricted to healthy and nutritious foods.

When there was no meat, we ate fowl.

When there was no fowl, we ate crawdad.

And when there was no crawdad to be found, we ate sand.
