If the pain is worse than a hemorrhoidectomy, count me out.

I had them out at 23. I had recurring ulcers on my tonsils so everything I swallowed felt like taking a toothbrush to it. Recovery really wasn't that bad. Day #3 was bad but I was able to leave the house for short periods of time by day 6. I did end up taking every one of my percocets though (first and only time in my life)

I didn't have any bleeding or anything. All in all, recovery pain was easier than the ulcers. Neither are anywhere near a gallbladder attack though

It was not a fun experience.

You have to get the tonsils pulled out and have reconstructive throat surgery at the same time. Liquid codeine is your friend.

Not trying to scare you. It’s going to be painful. But you won’t spend months out of every year being sick. Worth it.

It certainly hasn't been the typical strep. I have never once had a fever, it doesn't hurt like a typical sore throat. It actually hurts down in my neck under my jaw more than in my mouth so to speak.

It gets so swollen and inflamed it causes headaches and vertigo. That's been the biggest issue. While I'm on antibiotics it's manageable, still sucks though. Day 2 after antibiotics finish and I feel like I have the worst hangover ever and also feel drunk at the same time. Best way to describe it.

Over the counter pain meds or a couple cold beers keeps it where it's not the end of the world. I'm not a medicine taker though, I probably haven't had a Tylenol or ibuprofen in 3+ years. I've only taken it once or twice over these 12 weeks.

I think the tonsils just up and quit on me, they done.

My 5 year just had this done and she was absolutely miserable for about 10 days. I felt terrible for making her go through that but she was getting throat infections/coughs monthly.

I would not want to go through it as an adult.

I doubt thats what you wanted to hear

Had mine removed at 16 and before that I stayed sick a good bit. Afterwards, I hardly ever get sick. Just occasional allergies. 54 yo now

Was the worse pain I have ever experienced

As a 38 year old that went through a hemorrhoidectomy a year and a half ago, believe me, getting your tonsils out is a vacation.

There were a few days immediately after the surgery that I understood why people contemplate suicide. The pain was unimaginable.

It was worth doing because I had severe hemorrhoids that were affecting my quality of life. But I'd probably jump off a cliff before getting that surgery again.

Also forgot to start taking the Miralax soon enough after the procedure and thought I was impacted. Went to the Colorectal surgeon and he had to digitally examine me. This was about 3 or 4 days after surgery. When he stuck that finger in I literally saw starts like on the old cartoons. Stitches popped.

frick that was a rough 2 weeks

Had mine out when I was 39 and that was one of the worst surgeries I've had.

I got mine out at 18 yrs old.

I've had some surgeries in my life, and this was by far the most painful recovery out of all of them. I also had my deviated septum fixed, so my nose was packed for a week and was forced to breath through my mouth for a week.

With that being said, its still worth it. good luck tho

It was the worst surgery I have had. Late 30’s. Very painful recovery.

did it in my mid 20's. not going to lie, it sucked. wasn't terrible pain, just bad enough to aggravate the crap out of me for 2 weeks. Only time it was really painful was when I ate something. And the thing about ice cream, popsicles, etc. was BS for me. Cold stuff hurt just as bad as hot. Everything was room temp for at least two weeks. And just when I thought it was over, the scabs came off and started again for a few days.

Today makes 12 weeks straight I've had strep throat.

You need to see an immunologist. Mine found I had no immunity vs strep and he fixed me up. Have never had it again. Having my tonsils out didn't stop me from getting it.

I've heard horror stories about getting it done as an adult (I'm 37). Any adult experiences that don't involve horrible pain, bleeding out and dying, etc.?

I was in my 40s. It wasn't a big deal. Only time I had any serious pain was my own fault because I forgot to gargle/rinse after eating

My two oldest daughters were born in the mid 80's and had large tonsils as kids in the early '90s. Tonsillectomy had fallen out of favor with pediatricians back then. They wound up with tonsillectomies at 17 and 18 while freshmen at LSU. I scheduled them during spring break. Kept their asses out of circulation, let me tell you.

I removed mine at 30. I did my due diligence through research and references for the operating physician. I also requested that the physician not have any residents or fellows assisting. It was a breeze. The first three days were terrible but soon after that it mellowed. I did have substantial swelling in the uvula which simulated choking but it subsided after a week and a half.

I too suffered from repeated strep throat and tonsillitis. My tonsils were huge! As large as they perturbed out they also imbedded into the mucosa of my throat. Looked like golf balls. It was the best decision I could have made for my health. Since the tonsillectomy I have been sick twice and have recovered more rapidly then ever.

You should do it!

I had mine out about 10 years ago at this point. About age 32. I was getting majorly sick and fever with terrible sore throats that were happening about twice a year. The last occurrence, I called an ENT I knew and he set up an appt with me that afternoon and I was almost in tears that I don’t ever want to do this again.

Once my acute infection went away, we set up the tonsillectomy. I told him it was time, and he agreed. It was the WORST pain I ever went through in my life. You have no idea how many times you swallow a day or swallow your spit. I barely took in any water over first 5-6 days. I would go stand at my kitchen sink and psych myself up to take my liquid pain meds. It hurt and burnt so bad. Swallowing broken glass is the only real comparison to the pain. I remember one time I went to take my meds, and my wife came in and told me, “you’ve been standing in here for an hour”. Just terrible. I finally ate some pasta on day 8 I think. One of best meals of my life and I still remember it. I had lost almost 15 lbs during that week.

All that being said … it’s one of greatest decisions I ever made. Aside from Covid, I’ve never been sick in past 10 years since the surgery.

It’ll be worth it. You just have to make it through the terrible postop week. Best of luck to you. Godspeed

Okay, true story incoming.

I ate some bad pussy when I was 25.

100% true God strike me dead if I'm lying.

But she was drop dead gorgeous, green eyes, black hair, perfect arse, C cups with nipples like erasers.

Anyways, I fought that infection for three months. Finally I went in and got some antibiotics and still .... referred to the malofaciologiolly whatever doctors and they put me on a super antibiotic and scheduled surgery.

Two weeks later ... bam, snipped'em out. Told me they were still infected when they dropped them in the jar.

I survived.

I'd been through worse.

The poon did not smell bad.

Moral of the story is .... do not chow on bad poon. Stab it with the peen, but no chowing.
