Megamillions was close to $500m but there was a winner last night in NY.

Powerball is just as high and is set for tonight. I'll bet there will be a winner.

It seems only rarely that one lottery is high while the other was low. They generally seem to run close to the same amount.

There is no conspiracy. The bigger the pot, the more people buy tickets and the greater the probability of a winner. Simple math.

Has a lottery number ever won twice? It seems like if you subtract out the numbers that have already won you can greatly increase your odds.

Each drawing is independent of all of the others, so no, that won’t work.

I know that but odds are it won’t be a number that has already won.

They're all rackets.

I bought 50 tickets this morning.

Pick 1 2 3 4 5 6. It has as much a chance as any other combination.

Every drawing is a new random selection. The odds of one number combination never changes.

Statistically speaking, your odds of winning the Powerball don't increase when you buy a ticket.

You are, however, about 5400 times more likely to die from bee stings than winning the Powerball, if you did buy a ticket.

I don't think that is eactly true. I think that your odds of winning go up by a very small amount, and this increase does not warrant a 100% increase in your investment.

That being said, why do we need two lotteries?

They are random

Random events are not influenced by past events

This is exactly the reason why in casinos at roulette tables... when they started having those monitors/screens that displayed the previous 20 or so winning numbers that the house actually started making MORE money than when they didn't have those displays

I don't normally miss sarcasm, but if you're right - I feel really dumb
