I’m posting from a little north and west of Panama City. I’ve been dispatched down here to help coordinate Cat product support down here after the local Cat Dealer’s Panama City branch got wiped out by Hurricane Michael. I spent my day in Panama City and Mexico Beach.

The devastation in the eastern half of Panama City is incredible. But the destruction in Mexico Beach is nothing short of total. I’ve seen destruction before. From the Highway of Death in Iraq to the aftermath of the massive tornado a few years ago that roared through Tuscaloosa and Jefferson County. But this down here is just on another scale. Here’s some of what I saw today.

(That’s one of the Beach houses. All the others were obliterated. This one was just blown clear across the road somewhat intact.)

This is what both sides of the highway between Tindal AF Base and Mexico Beach looks like. Literally every tree bigger around than your wrist has been snapped like a match stick. Just the timber loss alone is estimated at over a billion dollars.

I also shot some video but I have no idea how or where I could upload it to share here.

I don’t know if you’re being sarcastic about the damage bc this is small potatoes compared to what I saw on the gulf coast and in Plaq Parish after Katrina.

The pictures don’t do justice to it. The only way I can describe it is complete devastation. Nothing left. Mexico Beach for all intents and purposes has been wiped out. And moving north and east from there, more of the same.

Both pale in comparison to Indonesia after the tsunami years ago.

Any other disaster dick measuring we're leaving out?

Exactly the same words I heard about Waveland in 2005.

I’ve still never seen anything like what happened to the Mississippi gulf coast after Katrina. I had a buddy in the army that was sent there and he sent me a video of him going down 90 about 3 days after and holy shite.

Can't they all be bad?

If your home is destroyed, it is total devastation.

No need to try and brag about which hurricane had the bigger dick.

You’re right. But I will say, what i saw in Mexico Beach reminded me of the images of the tsunami aftermath in Indonesia.

That's my point.

I know Katrina was awful. I was personally impacted.

I also know people in Mexico Beach had it just as bad. This idea that every storm has to be diminished because many on this board experienced Katrina is ridiculous.

After Hugo hit north of Charleston all of the pine trees between Charleston and Myrtle Beach were snapped like matchsticks just like the ones in your pictures

Yes. And someone else posted above that they’re also fine on their device.

Not sure why he’s seeing them sideways.

What amazed me was how literally every tree bigger around than your wrist was snapped like that. I also saw a few of the bigger pines that looked like they twisted before snapping.
