Toby Keith is a great guy.

I doubt my wife even knows who Toby Keith is. I just think he is a 9/11 profiteer who panders to the lowest possible interpretation of what "Country" is. Country music turned to absolute shite after 9/11. All of that "them towers" stuff put an end to an overlooked golden age in the genre- a golden age of which the Dixie Chicks were a huge part.

But I guess if you listen to music to reaffirm your fragile beliefs that other countries are stupid, college is stupid, women are stupid, etc., and you've got it all figured out there sitting in your F-350, which is quite possibly yellow with chrome accents, then Toby is pretty appealing.

First and foremost, frick cancer.

There’s a story that Toby Keith once got into Kris Kristofferson’s grill, basically calling him an America hating, dope smoking hippie. Little did Keith know that Kristofferson served in the Army as an Army Ranger, Helicopter Pilot, and was honorably discharged as a Captain.

I wish Toby the absolute best, but I also think he should at least try to make amends for the things he did wrong. As an older man, that's a huge part of what I want to accomplish with the limited time I have left. Maybe I learned that as a "college boy."

And the very first reply here insulted the Dixie Chicks. That made it on-topic, IMO.

The few years after 9/11 are just terribly cringeworthy in hindsight. It's made worse by the fact that that was the last time America was really a united nation.

Neocons took all of that, and squandered it on pointless wars. And yet, the Toby Keiths, John Boltons, and "Dubyas" of the world have somehow gotten a pass on it, to a great extent at least.

We need a reckoning on that shite just like we do on Covid. (And no, I wouldn't vote for a Democrat in a million years.)
