So many of them are doing it as a side hustle. Lots of soccer moms moonlighting as real estate agents. So there is an over abundance of them.

I’ve come to the conclusion that, at least in Shreveport/Bossier, realtors are about as shady and irritating as billboard lawyers.

Why in your opinion?

Exactly why another poster said.
I don't have time to set up viewings, inspections, etc. I guess I could, but unless you sell your house quickly, it could bog down and be very time consuming.
Further, they can handle a good bit of the legalese in regards to the actual sale

Some people don't want to deal with selling a house themselves. Shocking, I know.

This is funny since realtor.com/Zillow/etc pages for houses that are for sale were made by realtors.

This is like someone in 1987 saying "I don't see why realtors are needed when anyone can make a flyer and buy an ad in the classifieds."

Agreed.

The market in Fort Worth has been red hot for years and isn't slowing down anytime soon.

Like any other market, we have a ton of realtors. However, the top 5% or so are very well connected in social circles as they are handling transactions on all of these $1MM+ homes. The top 5% are making a boatload of money, but they also work their asses off for the client.

If you list with them, your home is going to be exclusively marketed in all of the "social" magazines (we seem to have a ton), they set up "events" at your house that draw in all of the country club wives, etc.

They also know who is looking for their next home that offers ABC features and will often have a buyer before the home is ever listed.

They are very active in charitable organizations/events (we have a TON in FW) and are very social. For a town of 1MM people, FW is still a "small" town and connections matter.

Having one of these realtors working for you is worth its weight in gold.

Realtors make way too much money on a sale for how little work they do

Zillow is a complete joke.

A good realtor is worth every penny.I've never met so many strange people and weirdos when I FSBO'd my house.

Finally hired a very good agent and sold in 2 months at list.

The market is so hot in West Palm that I get cold calls from real estate investment companies.

They are pretty helpful when buying as well. If you don’t stick with one, then every agent you contact will be trying to get your business. And they are FREE when you are the buyer. The seller gets stuck with the bill.

I wouldn't go so far as to say they're free for the buyer. If you assume a person selling a house has a minimum amount of money they must net for it to be worthwhile, and the realtor fees go on top of that, the buyer must pay more than the seller's minimum acceptable amount to get the home.

In the real world it's not that efficient, but I don't think they're free for a buyer either.

This unless you like showing your house to broke dicks that can't get a Payday loan much less a mortgage....now for buying if you are smart you can do without....but I normally use one for buying to so they deal with the bullshite and not me.
