Irony of ironies if true?
OceanGate's CEO's wife is a great-grand daughter of Isadore and Ida Strauss (owners of Macy's who died on Titanic).

There is a reason they signed liability waivers to go down on that sub.
No chance the waivers hold up in court in the inevitable wrongful death suit(s).

I'd opt for a lengthy tour of Gettysburg...

The sub had redundant safety systems. One system was designed to automatically throw off ballast triggering a surface. Those folks died 1 hr and 45 minutes into that dive. They never even reached the Titanic.
Catastrophic implosion failure. At least it was quick.

This is what I don't get, from videos I saw, they could only see what was outside through the tv monitor inside. Why in the hell would I pay $$$ to go 2 miles deep in the ocean to see it on tv screen when I can do that from the surface??

Where did you see that? There's a single viewport.

I thought it had one window people could look out of. I saw a picture of a small round window in an article I read about someone who took the trip and posted some pictures of himself in front of the small window. Even so, I don't understand why anyone would want to take that trip to look out of small window for a few minutes to see what you can see in pictures.
Doesn't much matter now since they have all obviously perished which is so awfully sad to think about. I hope death was quick and painless.

Why not? I'm not saying you're wrong but it is a signed contract isn't it?

Which failed previously on a trip.

It'll come down to what was disclosed in those waivers v. what the known issues were. Hiding concerns / negligence / etc... will all play a role in if those waivers are upheld.
However, in all likelihood, the company will declare bankruptcy and it'll largely be a moot issue.

What does a wrongful death suit get the families? The other subs? ( If there are any)...Im actually curious here. Is there any thing that could be really beneficial to anyone from court case (precedent for more safety in future endeavors??)

I really really hope this was the case. I can't imagine the scenario where you're just hovering around down there in the dark, just counting down the hours until you die. One person goes one by one...you're waiting to be next

They had better find these people or Joe Biden has some explaining to do.

The sub operating in international waters could also complicate any litigation.

Whatever assets the company has (other subs, money, etc...). It can also lead to more safety and put other companies "on notice" they need to prioritize safety. Plus, when something like this happens people want someone to blame. Even if the monetary value is nothing, the families may want that legal blame on the CEO / company.

The wife of Stockton Rush, the pilot of the missing Titanic tour submarine, is actually the great-great-granddaughter of two first-class passengers who died on the Titanic, according to records.

Based on the information released so far, it seems like there was gross negligence involved on the part of OceanGate, and courts generally won't enforce a liability waiver when the company providing the services committed an act (or multiple acts) of gross negligence that led to the claim(s).
Presumably Washington state has jurisdiction here for civil suits, even though the incident occurred in international waters, because that's where OceanGate is registered. The Washington courts will not enforce a liability waiver if OceanGate committed acts of gross negligence that led to the deaths of these people.

I wonder if it’ll take 70 years to find out the truth.
