Do you have a programmable thermostat? I use Ecobee myself and have been pretty happy with it. Grilling instead of cooking indoors helps. Is your HVAC pretty good at managing your humidity? A dehumidifier can help if your humidity is still fairly high when using your HVAC,

Have any of you ever tried any of those portable air conditioners like Savvychill or Breezamax? Click on this link to better understand what I’m asking.

You might not want to close off any rooms. Sometimes it is a bad idea.

Apparently, a thermal cover over your attic access stairs is helpful.

If Entergy customer use there home inspection program to fix any minor issues.
They did some work on my sons that cut his bill down.
This is free in most instances if you own the home.
If you rent turn the ac up

That is almost like living in a terrarium in the south.
Give me 72 with a decent humidity.
The biggest comfort factor in cooling is humidity. That has been my problem at my old house. I have to keep it cold because of the humidity seeping in, but then that creates another problem of sweating. My AC lines are sweating in the attic and creating a problem with moisture.

People around here complain about $4-800 monthly bills. We have lived here 25 years and just broke $200 for the first time, last year. Highest ever was $212.
I built a 2,600 sq ft house 15yrs ago, fully bricked and paid for a well insulation job. Power bill runs on avg of about $200 a month thru the year. I cant imagine paying a $600 power bill. If your power bill is that much, something is extremely wrong imo.

Turn off your AC. Turn off your lights. Duh.

You're on a well? How does that affect your power bill?

Switched to time of use billing with my electric co and my bill averaged $65 cheaper per month. Peak time for summer is 3p-6p so the thermostat is programmed for 70° until 2:55, then 78° from 3p-6p. We try to avoid using other major appliances during that time.

After one fell on my house during Laura, I had the other one cut down. It’s not worth the headache wondering if it’ll hit your house every time a hurricane comes around. I learned my lesson.
