15% Pre-Tax is standard for decent food and service. Never tip for the government freeloading on your food. They did nothing.

Also, I usually tip in cash as the Debit/Credit Card processor is keeping 4% of the server’s tip.

Also, if you are able to enter the tip as a negative on some terminals, you can lower your bill. Or so I’ve been told.

I always thought a tip was a way of saying thanks. I’d usually tip $18 / 20% for sit down service and a few for delivery. Now it seems 20% is starting point and we are expected to tip everyone’s income.

a bartender in houston once took my 5 bucks cash from a 4 dollar beer and without acknowledging me put the dollar in his tip jar. when i told him to grab my dollar out of the jar and give it to me he got an attitude with me. the whole rest of the night i went to him, paid in cash, and looked him in the eye as i put every last bit of change back in my wallet. frick that dude.

I've always done 20% and then round up to the nearest dollar. If the server pisses me off or the place absolutely sucks I'll drop it to 15%. This is for meals served at a sit down restaurant. Every other place can F off. If I'm standing at a counter ordering you get zero.

Tipping has gotten out of control and the snapback is going to be glorious. Tipping might be a thing of the past inside 10 years with the hate it's getting now.

I don’t know if I’ve seen these deviate from 15%, 18%, and 20%.

Higher end restaurants have gone up to 25, 30 and 35%. I usually tip well for good service, but I was frustrated the first time I saw 25, 30 and 35%.

I am also a sucker and tip on tax, so I tip an extra 2-2.5% of the total bill for no service other than the government taxing me.

Idgaf you do good to great you get 15%, if your average and I’m waiting around for drinks and food and I look up and your playing on your phone… probably going to tip very very low if at all.

Now if they are absolutely amazing I will do 20%

Ain’t no way in hell I will give much more then that, everything is expensive enough as it is, I will give the 15% for good service

15% is still acceptable for average service
it is for average sit down service. But...

If I order standing up cut it in half. If I have to stand up to go get it, cut it in half (again)...add for any extras...

I have no problem tipping 25%+ for good service at a great place, but half assed service deserves half assed tips, even if the level of service was by design.

I've always just double the tax. Though I do think that tipping culture has gotten out of control. Especially with everyone using POS Toast variants. The system automatically asks for a tip and also will charge you a 3% credit card fee.

When I went to Europe, servers there actually make a salary and you’re not expected to tip. Food and drink prices were the same too.
And service is horrific at European restaurants.

The higher the bill, the less I tip. Big bills like $500 get 15% but a $30 bill gets 25%. The next 3 nights, I have a client golf trip at a golf resort. We have reservations for 8 for 3 nights in a row. I expect the bill to be about $800 per night. At $800, the server will be tipped $120. We will be there a max of 2 hours. I don’t feel like $60 an hour is unfair.

I tipped 35% at Fontenot's Cajun Way this weekend.

The girl was cute and attentive.

Asking for the tip before providing the food and/or service is for the birds.

Basically holding your food hostage based on the amount of tip they already know that you provided.
