Tipping etiquette question: a friend pays for your meal, but doesn't tip the server

I've had this happen to me. A coworker or a buddy pays for lunch, but leaves a fat zero on the tip line.

How do you handle this? Sure I could just give the waiter some cash, but this looks pretty bad if you do it in front of your friend (especially since they just bought your meal). It looks like you're showing them up.

Post pics of the server and we'll get right back to you on it.

If the coworker pays for lunch you pick up the tip. Pretty standard operating procedure.

I've never associated with anyone that didnt tip but if I did I would leave a tip regardless of how it makes him/her feel. They should feel bad for not tipping.

Hell yes I leave the server some cash.

If you co worker says something, explain the error of his ways.

This...my FIL doesn't know how to act in restaurants at all, but his tipping is the worst. We went out for my wifes graduation to a nice steak dinner and was upset that his wife wanted to tip $10 on what was over a $100 bill.... I said Oh crap I forgot something. Thankfully had plenty cash on me

"Hey, did you want me to leave the tip?"

I'm all about shame as an incentive in those kinds of situations.

Ask him how much was the bill and leave a tip based on the total.

Um, no. I don't even carry cash. I'd be asking for a bill to be sent over for $1 and then I'd tip on the full dinner.

Don't really care what "friend" thinks because they can't be much of a friend if they stiff people for no reason.

Subtle "you pay the tip" move...

Unless the table service was absolutely horrid, you have to be a complete dick to not tip.

What if it's on the company card, but your coworkers is just Asian or black or Jewish?

I think you are missing the hint from your friend
He paid, you catch the tip

I always thought it was pretty normal that if one person picked up the bill, the other one covers the tip. Thats it ends up working most of the time when I go to lunch with a friend or co-worker
