Otherwise, they pay income tax on all salary and benefits.

You have that backwards.

Housing allowance is untaxed. Income is taxed just like everyone else.

Everyone likes to shite all over Catholics, but all the priests I’ve ever met live in a very simple house or rectory.

The priests and bishops in our diocese are limited to a maximum salary of $30,000 per year, and they certainly don’t live in $7 million homes.

Yep, never enough taxes to take so we can make that utopia I hear everyone talks about us being so close to.

I think Newsome's 10 year plan to end homelessness in SF, that is now on year 20, worked like a charm and there is now no homeless problem there. A shining example of the intelligence and good that comes from more government and taking of people's hard earned money.

Tax religions entities at your peril. Eventually, there will be someone in office who plays favorites.

Hes a con man. But the solutions being proposed here would inevitably be used to attack churches themselves.

Did we ever figure out why millions were buried in the wall at Joel Osteen’s racket?

Why do you care about what other people do with their time and money and energy? Does anything any one of them affect your life in any way?

I hear there are many people in many areas that are not paying taxes. That has zero impact on my life as they never have paid and never will. Besides the fact that government is the least efficient way to manage money and it’s not like the government would lessen anyone’s tax if they did pay.

I see many people who own boats. They have zero effect on my life whatsoever.

I am told many people own mansions. Does not matter to me.

I brought this up for discussion (again an open discussion) as many folks are seeing significant rises in taxable value of their homes...

Why would do people always beg for others to pay more in taxes?

All Americans all pay to much taxes already.

We should be pissed off at how much our government, on all levels, waste our tax dollars instead of saying people should pay more.

I think the gripe is not about taxing religious entities, but rather that religious entities do not have to pay property tax.

In New Orleans, even in better neighborhoods, there is blighted housing usually adjacent to churches where former parishioners donated their property to the church on the condition that their descendants get to live in the houses. Then, of course, their are the mega churches sitting on valuable commercial real estate.

How about we just actually cut the govt spending and the need for more taxes instead of creating means to regulate which churches exist

How about we cut government spending AND tax everyone the same. They’re not mutually exclusive.

I’m almost sure preachers are taxed as self-employed. At least the preacher I knew was taxed that way.

How about tax organized religions in general? Starting with the catholic church, whatever dudes like Duplantis, Osteen, and others are affiliated with? It's amazing that fools believe God is all powerful, knowing, and whatever. Somehow he isn't good with a checkbook. I respect the people of faith in this forum, and wish prosperity, health, and love, to those families. There comes a time a place when it's time to pay the tab.

FICA is required on all salaried income, including housing allowance.
