The boomers will all have to retire for this to finally die. The people I’ve encountered that equate productivity to how many hours you spend in the seat are all of that age.

Working 60hrs a week is insane and puts a level of stress on you that is unhealthy at best.

I’ve been in salaried positions for more than 20 years. Some weeks it’s 60 hours some it’s 30. It probably balences out over the year

As a gas trader, I can tell you there is only a shortage of time. Definitely not work. Christ some days I’m so busy I forget to eat or piss.

And then they'll wonder why Mexicans are moving in and taking jobs. Wish I could replace them all with robots.

A lot of jobs have no need for 40 hour work weeks. Most workers will only do about 4 hours of actual work on any given day and find ways to not do any work the rest. There have been studies done where they dropped the work day down to 6 hours and had nothing but positive results. Productivity actually went up along with worker happiness/moral. Most people don't want to lose their job and will get their work done before the deadline, so if you shorten the day, they will just be more efficient finishing their work on time. Less bullshitting around.

those down periods make up for the rushed busting your arse periods so it all evens out. you paid your dues earlier to have slow periods, no one is getting cheated until you decide we no longer deserve the slow time to relax and get paid fore it to make up for the under pay we got for killing ourselves.

geez where do you guys think this shite is going? you will never get double pay for half hours? dont be that stupid but you will talk yourselves into double work for half the pay

Many will come in bragging about how their life is perfect and they don’t work nearly 40 hours but you’re absolutely right. Companies should offer an option for a 10% salary cut if you would like to work from home.

Why would you get a cut? They can downsize on the building and utilities. I would think they would give you a raise (though I don't think they actually would). I would think that if a true initiative to do this was subsidized or endorsed by the state government, you could get a tax break by not using the roads so much.

People who claim they work 40, 50, 60 hours a week in the white collar world work about 35% of what they claim.

They say they "work" x amount of hours because they are physically present in the office or at or near a computer for those hours.

In reality, in a 10 hour work day in the white collar world. 3-4 hours are actual work and 6-7 hours are spent talking about unproductive things (including general office gossip or complaining or blah blah), meetings where they are attentive and tuned in 25% of the meeting, talking on the phone in a nonproductive manner, texting, surfing the net, reading news, going to the bathroom, eating, looking at their schedule, planning upcoming events, etc. Maybe 25% of those 10 hours are spent doing things that are actual work that directly results in company revenue.

Tigerdroppings traffic slows down during 8-5 on holidays, compared to regular work days.

Plenty of people I know work from home as well. Is this a foreign concept in Louisiana, or do people with these jobs move to a better location?

That is a totally foreign concept. Sounds like your company needs a RIF.
