Work is the worst place to get work done.

You mean there are people on this board who have to work?

I used to be a big fan of the telecommute movement but now that I'm in meetings all the time I've grown to loathe conference calls. A lot of the techie introverts do not like to speak out on phone calls and then you have the guys that always speak over everyone else without saying anything useful at all.

People who claim they work 40, 50, 60 hours a week in the white collar world work about 35% of what they claim.

And, if not, it would seem they are inefficient at what they do. It reminds me of that line on the office where Michael says "I can work all day on a project and Jim can finish it in thirty minutes. So that should tell you something." haha

Maybe not necessarily a foreign concept to Louisiana, but it is to America. Next to countries such as Japan and China, Americans are logging the most hours out of developed working countries.

This. I once was working a certain travel job that at its peak was requiring 70 hours/7 days a week of work. I quickly realized that there was more to life than working that much and not being able to have a life outside of work.

There are reasons. Just saying.

If everyone worked from home productivity and innovation would crater. Technology, while a boon, has the downside of turning everyone into shut-ins avoiding person to person contact.

You willing to cut your pay by 25% to only work 30 hours?

Is this where we lie and act like we are truly working for 40 hours a week?

Yeah, just because one is present clocking hours, doesn't equate to output usually. When I hear about people logging 50+ hours a week or having to constantly stay late doing work, I feel like that is either poor work efficiency, trying to do too much and not share the load, or someone who hates being at home.

40 hours a week?

I averaged 68/week last year. Over 72 so far this year.

Welcome to O&G.

I had to sit through an hour-and-45 minute meeting this week for no reason. Absolutely none. It's a weekly production/sales meeting and I'm not in production or sales. I've fielded one question in one of these meetings in the last 6 weeks. One that could've been asked and answered via email.

I just wish I could work 4 10-hour days instead. I'll do my 40 as long as I get Fri-Sun off!

plus Fridays and Mondays are slow, and after 3 i never get calls. I can easily keep the customers happy working 30 and have a 3 or 4 day weekend
