I usually could find the older edition with the same shite in it for like $20 online
The site with all the online books has 2 editions available for each textbook of mine loaded on there. My first class I assumed we were using the latest edition and used that. Realized last week of the class I was supposed to be using the second to latest one. Didn't make a difference
As for old books, only one I kept from nursing school was my Taber's

I can't do online book reading or test taking. Just doesn't work for me. When I had classes with computerized tests, I'd ADA it and make them let me take it on paper

You can't put a price on a good education

Don't worry, you can sell them back at the end of the semester for $60.
Yeah but I remember how nice it was to head for the bar with a cool couple hundred bucks from selling back books, totally ignoring I'd paid 1000 for them

I'm the opposite. Love how everything in grad school is online

There's a bio professor at LSU that makes you buy HIS edition of the bio 1201 book. Which spoiler alert, is nearly impossible to find used. Costed me about $200 if I remember correctly.

It really is an immoral racket. Especially when the professor you have wrote the book.

Do you remember having to go to the copy store to get the printed out copy of a professor's book for like 100 dollars? That shite happened at both AU and UGA and was pure profit

The flagship school of Louisiana will take anyone.

I had a Biology 101 professor back in the day who made a 300 page bound book for his class. It was literally copies of the power point slides he used in lecture with strategically placed blanks. He changed a couple random pages each semester to make you buy a new one. $400 for a fricking fill in the blank book.
Now the newest spin on taking all your book money is a fricking online access key for "interactive" books and assignments. That's worth a cool $150+.

You guys are silly paying for textbooks. I get every single one of mine for free although they are e-books. Saved thousands so far

I'd gladly torrent the shite out of an eBook, but most of my classes now are the book plus access to assignments or tests included.

Just to do homework for one class this semester, I have to pay $75 to Mcgraw-Hill for a dog shite homework website. That's just to turn in my homework

One of my psych courses is using Pearson and the site is set up where it has to show that you viewed it in order to get credit. Then, like you said, there's the assignments on the site as well (i.e. Quizzes, essays, etc) that you can't complete elsewhere. It's their shitty way of getting around books rentals.

Yea the access codes have been the only thing I have had to buy but they aren't but like $60 per class that I need them in.

That one isn't bad.
Depending on your teacher, shouldn't be a time killer. The Hoffman book is the one to fear.

I had a meeting with 2 Apple reps a few months back. Sales guy told me Southern has been pushing instructors to create their own "book" and publish it on iTunesU for the students to access free of charge.
Most institutions have the ability to create e-material themselves but too many kickbacks are given to instructors by publishers for there to be any real change.
