Turbo Tax always tried to find ways to squeeze more fees.
Is it hard to not click on the extra offer?

Those numbers look suspect. And you are forgetting Medicaid, SS disability, etc.

To bounce off of this, any tax filing recommendations? I'm fairly young and don't got a lot going on. I just used TurboTax last year.

I used to use turbo tax when I first started filing, but pay someone I know, who is a CPA to do them because I know it will be done right.

Going to be my biggest year ever, and I’ll never see anything like it again. But it’s mostly pre-paid.

ETA: On second thought, the year we sold our company might have been bigger. We had to pay ordinary income tax on all liquid assets (mainly accounts receivable), even on the ones we weren’t getting paid for yet.

Based on data through 2024, the majority of U.S. federal spending is indeed dedicated to transfer payments, which are funds redistributed to individuals and state/local governments without direct goods or services received in return. These payments, including Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, and welfare, constituted roughly 64–65% of total federal spending as of 2022-2023.

The majority of our money indeed goes to freeloaders.

Conveniently throwing "welfare" in there right alongside social security and Medicare/Medicaid.That's like saying "Alabama, Georgia and LSU have combined to win the last 12 SEC Championships in football," which isn't false. But Alabama (7) would be social security, Georgia (4) would be Medicare/Medicaid and LSU (1) is welfare.

Fun with math!

That was Gemini. Grok just spit out the same shite...

This equates to about 2.5% of the total federal budget (e.g., $175 billion / $7 trillion ˜ 2.5%).

SNAP is the largest share here (around 1.4–1.5% of the total budget alone).
The others are smaller individually (TANF <0.3%, WIC ~0.1%, Section 8 rental aid ~0.7%).

Not a single politician in DC who wants to keep power, President Trump included, is going to talk about those things. You can’t even discuss raising SS qualifying age by half a year over the next four years to reach 67.

Medicaid and SSDI is welfare spending whether you want to admit it or not. Just those two programs are pushing over a trillion a year

When a very large majority of people think welfare, what do they think of? I guess that's my only point.
