I hope that we can afford to spend $35k/year in K-7 tuition when the time comes.

It’s about 17k a year in Nola.
For Newman, maybe.
Newman 9th grade is $28,300.00

I would guess St. Anthony would pick up a few along with St. Cletus, St.Joseph...maybe St.Rosalie.
Shaw is going to draw from all of the remaining schools on the West Bank like IC right by Shaw and OLPH down in Belle Chasse.

ETA I'd like to see how much money from the school is kicked back to the Parish and the Diocese....if it's anything substantial it's bullshite.
It’s usually the other way around.

It's about 5k per year k-7. It's about 10k per year for HS in the metro new Orleans area. I've got two in HS and one in k-8. It's worth it.
25k a year. Damn.

We still have a lot of people we know who send their kids to the catholic school we pulled our kids out of.
Tuition is like $5,100.
Then you have:
$400 registration fee
$200 - $300 in books and materials fees
Almost daily requests for money, $5 here, $10 there, for all manner of stuff.
School lunch costs that are 2-3 times public school cost
Uniforms that can only be purchased from a single provider, who of course, prices their uniforms that way
The kicker was for my youngest, for Pre-K she was required to purchase a nap mat from the school. The school was in turn ordering them from a single vendor. You could not use any nap mat other than the one ordered directly from the school for that particular kid and that particular year.
The nap mat was $58. I think WalMart sells them for under $10.
Meanwhile, for public school, I pay a $15 "instructional fee" each year, the uniforms can be gotten at tons of places (and you don't even need to have the logo on the shirts), and occasionally I get asked for $1 here or $2 there.

. But they were not competing for leftover seats like in the 90’s where you only had maybe 3 left seats after catholic elementary feeder kids and *coughathleticscough*
The Catholic high schools in NOLA will take pretty much anyone who can pay.

Seems like there is all kinds of social things you have to do like Men's club, Church Fair, etc...
Plus, Tithe, right?

Public school isn't an option for us where we live. We knew that when we moved there though. It's the sacrifice we make for having 10-15 minute commutes.

This was my favorite part of having kids in a Catholic school. Our men's club was very active with 7 meetings a year with kegs of beer and great food. They did five or six fundraising events a year that you didn't have to work, but it was a hell of a lot of fun. I made some great friends over the years.
It's awesome when so many parents are involved at the school.

That is what makes or breaks a school.

Our child’s school makes you volunteer for “X” amount of hours/year...If not, we gotta pay a $250 fine....I think it’s bullshite because I refuse to leave work early, or take personal time off to come do things at the school....I’m paying this big tuition bill, so they need to leave me the heck alone and let me work.
