I’ve heard of people that ride motorcycles from Tierra del Fuego to a point in Alaska, but I guess they ferry across the Darien Gap.
when this came up on the movie board a few weeks ago i watched a video of a guy drive from alaska to the bottom of south america.

I mean - it could be done if there was a will. It would be over 2 Causeways in length and would close anytime there is a tiny bit of fog, but still.

In a reversal, they would charge for only Northbound vehicles.

It should only be a one way southbound causeway imo

Panama wants you to just use the Canal. Doesn't want any competition.

Glad he used the word trafficked. It's not just that its extremely rough terrain, is extremely rough terrain controlled by some of the most ruthless and exploitive groups on the planet. Oh, and once you get through you still have to get through the rest of Central America and Mexico.

I think sometimes it's less about public education and more about internal curiosity. There's not many opportunities or reasons for a public school to cover something like the Darien Gap but a curious person would come around to it.

I’ll have to go watch Timmy’s. I enjoyed Bald’s but not as much as his Eastern European / Soviet Bloc videos.

Darien Gap was also a great natural barrier against certain pests like screw worms. However as more and more folks have crossed it coming up from South America and bringing cattle with them, it has started showing up again on the north side of the Gap.

Bunch of British commandos did this with land rovers. They got across successfully but were literally dropping crates of dynamite over the side of their helos. Not to kill anyone but to scare the locals who would just as soon kill you as watch you trespass on their land. Granted, they were also armed to the teeth but you know, theatricality and deception and all that jazz.

And yes, before you ask, they basically winched the rangers up and over cliffs. They even said having them was totally unnecessary but wanted to have them anyway.

I love how they use a picture of a bunch of children and women COVERED in mud as they make their perilous, long journey through deadly dangerous territory, just so they can reach America and be free!

All designed to elicit maximum sympathy and outrage from people will demand that we show compassion and help them. After all, they only want a chance at freedom and opportunity. Totally fake garbage.

I’m sure they all have college degrees or equivalent skills and have banking jobs lined up and waiting for them. Im sure they aren’t coming for the free shite and they won’t suck off the teet at all.

About a 60 mile gap along the Panama-Colombia border separates segments of the Pan American highway.

Home schooled but always thought there was a roadway through there. Something about folks who drove from Alaska to S. America.

Weird that it’s only 60 miles. I mean we cut a passage between oceans through Panama nearly a century ago. No one ever thought about completing an intercontinental highway over the past decades?

There are a thousand ferries for legitimate purposes. To build a formal highway or rail would cost at least a billion dollars. Who's going to pay that? Panama? Columbia? LOL.

Curiosity…something this board lacks. The surest sign of intelligence isn’t always being right, but rather possessing the curiosity to learn more.

It’s a damn shame, too. There are a lot of very intelligent posters on this board (Klark Kent, Centinel, oilfieldbioligy, Roger, etc (there are many)) who, for whatever reason, are not comfortable allowing their curiosity to take themselves to new and interesting places, intellectually speaking.

Anyway, yeah, people aren’t walking from South America to the United States because it’s an easy way to land a better life. They put their lives on the line….and we ridicule them as lazy mooches.
