I'm hearing from a friend in the USCG that the emergency was that Kameron OD'd. Cline wanted fly on his own to keep things quiet rather than go with a Medevac. He works out of Tampa but that is the rumor he is hearing.

If he wanted to keep this hush, how did the coast guard find that out?

This whole thing is gettin a bit Shady if a civilian pilot flew over to get them in middle of night when the Coast Guard is plenty capable of medevacs.

Since when does the Coast Guard fly into foreign countries to do medevacs? They weren’t off the coast in the US EEZ, they were on land in a sovereign nation.

This accident only happened because it was night. Most civilian helicopter pilots will never fly at night in their entire career, much less over open water. Pilots who fly at night and do it well are usually guys from units like the 160th SOAR and they do it on NODs.

I’m guessing they’d only show up after Bahamian first responders requested assistance.

Everyone seems to be forgetting this was his private island. I have no clue about the Bahamas EMS System, but I’m guessing the closest hospital worth anything is in Freeport. Cline likely figured he could get his helo to/from Ft. Lauderdale quicker than a boat ride to Freeport.

Discussion around LSU is that the girl from NO was the one that was ill & Cline made the decision to transport her and everyone else home.

Several published reports said it was the daughter.

It does look like the Coast Guard has a base in the Bahamas and does rescue missions in the area.

LINK

ETA: Looks like the base in the Bahamas is mostly drug interdiction, not search and rescue.

That looks like a maritime, humanitarian rescue. I wouldn’t consider that and rescuing the daughters of billionaires already on solid ground to be the same thing.

BC things didn’t go as planned and the helicopter crashed.

But everyone onboard didn’t make it to tell a story

I just hate to see the OD rumors start on the girl who died without any proof of it. She went to LSU for 4-5 years and never had it happen, but she goes on a private island with her dad and OD,s? Let’s get some proof before we start spreading rumors.

No doubt a talented pilot. But also keep in mind that’s over 13+ years and is only 9.5% of his hours flown. I wouldn’t think it was something he did often, especially considering all of his other responsibilities like running the business.

The only thing is that the pilot flew from FLA to their island successfully. So it seems to be that he had experience flying over the ocean at night with 0 visibility.

Lots of experienced pilots crash. It only takes one mistake.

Clearly this guy was very experienced.

So maybe it was an in-flight failure.

Cline’s employee said there was a pop and the lights went out. I don’t know how good his visibility was but I’d be curious if that was some kind of failure or the helo actually hitting the water.

I’d imagine a machine like that would have auto pilot. Y’all think he was hand flying over water at night with zero viz?

At low altitude before gear retract. Yeah.

Also, there’s a big discussion on the professional pilot’s rumor network whether autopilot might have caused the crash. A good bit of it is over my head.
