Any idea what the bank fishing is like?

Sorry. I've never bank fished there.

I'm sure it's possible. Try tidalfish.com

Get one of these too and some chicken necks. Can do this while pier fishing.

If you like blue crab that is.

Mostly fishing off a pier is what I remember some doing if they were not on the water...

Norfolk is a dump. I was stationed in Little Creek and lived in VA beach.

I've heard it s a total dump. Not being coy either. I've heard it's a total shite hole

I have work and contractors in VA and Norfolke is shithole. I always figured it would be a nicer place. Norfolk, VA Beach, Richmond, and the Eastern shore are all areas I figured would be much nicer than what they are.

just ok when the fleet isnt in. When it is, you got 20,000 randy sailors on the roads, in the bars, etc. Lived there for 6 months a few years ago and the place is generally a shite hole.

though after reading this thread this wont be a popular opinion but Norfolk is just like every city there is some good areas and shitty ones. I would recommend living in the West/historic Ghent area or Downtown. The wife and I have lived in Downtown Norfolk for over 10 years now and we love it here. We're a 5 min walk from the Wisconsin and Chrysler museum. 10 min walk from Granby St were there is a ton of restaurants and bars and not far from 21st St and Colley ave where there its the same.

Now little Creek,Ocean View, down towards base and around Janaf I would not recommend.

Live in Virginia Beach. Tunnel traffic is horrible.

Do NOT rent in Hampton, Suffolk, or Portsmouth and then expect to commute through those tunnels. They are nightmarish.

Norfolk is nice in areas, squalid in others. You really have to drive around first.

The Chick's Beach area of Virginia Beach is a nice down home neighborhood, with its own bars and restaurants... and that would be pretty accessible to Norfolk via Shore Drive.

All in all, that entire Hampton Roads area is a bit disappointing. It has big population but no pro sports, and traffic as bad as Baton Rouge's. They play some mean high school football, though.

90% of Northern VA is better than the best of Hampton Roads.

But much more expensive.

Love the Chrysler Museum. That neighborhood is pretty nice, yes.

I love Richmond, which is about 1000 times better than Hampton Roads.

I lived in Va. Beach for three years, so I know the area fairly well.
Ghent is the only place in Norfolk I would live, but I'd still suggest Va. Beach.

I've seen a lot of complaints about the traffic. I would have to be at work in Norfolk around 4am and likely get off about 1pm or so.
