How does it fit in the 1st degree statute?
Unless I'm missing something, they went to this guy's trailer with the intent to kill him, and did just that.
Is that not first degree murder? Premeditated, intent to kill.
It's not like they went to beat the shite out of him and went overboard... they brought weapons.

No that is 2nd degree

Oh, well... looks like they got it right then.
And yeah, upon further research, there has to be another condition (usually another felony) to make it first degree. That's my mistake. Glad I've never really had to look into that.

Majority of people don't know the difference between 1st and 2nd degree.

In my opinion, that's why Crehan had to be punished in some fashion. Like many of ya'll, I do not believe life in prison is justice in this SPECIFIC case.
Another factor is this: He is just her boyfriend. It would probably be looked upon much differently if she had done the killing -- or even her dad. Crehan was her boyfriend of only a number of months. He should have had the cooler head and instead focused on helping her through it -- by their relationship, encouraging counselling, etc.

It's always funny when people try to say that they're crazy enough to get away with murder.

No - you need an aggravating factor. In Louisiana, straightforward, premeditated murder, without an aggravating factor, is classic Second Degree murder.

It is first degree murder IF they broke into his trailer while armed, as was expressed in the OP. That is the other felony, aggravated burglary, involved.

Trudy White should be indicted on this as well

Whatever happened to "Revenge is a dish best served cold."
He deserves something just for being enough of a dumbass to go after the guy 10 days later.
You obviously give the dude enough time to think that he got off, make sure you have an airtight alibi and THEN make sure justice gets served.

I was at trial and the testimony was that they went to his trailor to rough him up and cause him pain...not to kill him.
I believe that because they brought no weapons.
But according to the letter of the law it was 2nd degree murder. But I honestly thought he would get manslaughter.

I completely agree.
Regarding the OP, as a normal Joe, I completely agree what Jace did was wrong, and deserves some time in jail.
As a parent, though, let a POS mess with one of my children.....

Not to mention...he started having anal sex with her when she got old enough to get pregnant.

All of that was mentioned in open court?
How does Trudy White sleep at night? Is she an elected judge?
