Thoughts on a Honda Pilot?

Looking into getting a new vehicle to cart around a family. I'd go minivan, but they seem to be pricier than I was expecting.

I'm scheduled to test drive a 2007 Honda Pilot with 74k miles (3 row seating) later this afternoon. Owner is asking $9500 and said, "I just want this thing out of my driveway." I'm hoping it has a good CarFax report and drives well because that seems like a hell of a deal.

I would use it mostly for carting kids and a dog around town, but we have a pop-up trailer we'd like to take across the country once a year.

Sounds like you've got the upper hand. Offer him $6500

Yeah that's what I'm thinking. He's already admitted he's in a hurry to sell. I fully expect him to not budge on the price though since he said in the ad that he's underpriced it to sell it quickly.

We'll see though.

74k for a 2007 isn't that bad.

It's a light trailer. 2000 pounds.

I've read towing capacity is 4400 pounds on a 2007 pilot.

Too close for comfort?

EDIT - I should note that the trailer is the last thing on my list to worry about. Would rather more seating and storage for longer trips that towing capacity.

You should post your questions on the Piloteers website forum for this generation (1st?) Pilot. I have an Odyssey and if I ever do any light towing (pop up or utility trailer), I'll put a transmission cooler on it.

My experience with Honda's from that generation is that while the engine is strong, everything else around it is falling apart.

That was one of the main reasons I recently sold my 2007 Civic that also had under 100 k Miles.

Great car. It's perfect for what you want to use it for.

That's why I have the old Pilot.

Just got my wife a 2016 and it's much bigger and nicer than the older models. The 3rd row seat can even fit adults.

Coworker has a 07 Pilot. She had to replace an alternator which is par for the course with older Hondas. Simple fix

They are good SUV's but I feel the interior doesn't age well.

My mother in law just bought a used pilot. It's a solid car. We pulled my pop-up with it no problem. If you are going up in the mountains, it may be a little iffy.
