I’m happy. We had a blast. Dipped into savings but didn’t have to borrow.
Had ours at Southern Oak Plantation and the rehearsal at New Orleans country club and after a show at Howlin Wolf. Honeymooned in Barbados in a villa on the beach built in 1820 currently owned by John Heinz.

Spend half of that on the wedding. Then the rest on a down payment on a house.
50k for a wedding is got damn ridiculous

Had an expensive first wedding, much more simple second wedding. Probably cost a quarter of the first? Having had both, easy and simple is the way to go.
I don't begrudge anyone the sort of wedding they want as long as they can afford it without going into debt and they aren't doing it out of obligation or fear of complaints. I'm not going to look down on simple weddings and be judgmental if more extravagant. Grew up going to afternoon Baptist cake and punch receptions with no dancing so I don't have a lot of expectations when it comes to weddings. The ceremony is my favorite part and as long as there is wedding cake, I'm just honored to be a part of the couple's day.

TBH, I have no issue with people who actually have wealth having baller weddings. I’m talking 6 figure weddings.
I don’t really understand middle class people hurting themselves to have a $50k one though.
100% agree
but today, middle class people believe their life requires baller bullshite

I'd guess my ex-inlaws spent about $15k-$20k, for 100-150 people mostly for food and the venue. I married an LDS girl so no bar, otherwise it would have been $30k with my brothers and sisters. I didn't even have to tell my family to bring flasks. They knew the drill. I paid for tuxes and groomsman gifts and that's it. I was so nervous I don't remember much of the ceremony. Great venue though at Red Butte Gardens.

Anyone that spends 50,000 on a wedding is entering into a doomed situation from the start..

Honestly I don’t see the point of a wedding. Go to the justice of the peace, get married, done. You’re no more married with a wedding than you are without.
Agreed but good luck finding a potential wife that agrees. They're out there but are few and far between.

My daughter can go to the justice of the peace. I'll walk her across the office

Seems like their best option would be to do a wedding for 30K then.
No, the best thing is to limit wedding costs to $5,000. Our first daughter managed to have a wonderful wedding for that price and our other daughters know that is what they have to work with. We could easily afford more but have always taught our kids to manage their money and don't waste it on frivolous things. I have business contacts with a major Seattle wedding venue and they have put on several million dollar weddings where the flowers alone were over $100,000...an unimaginable waste of money.

Very hard to have a wedding for that in 2019. You might want to be more realistic, especially if you can afford it.

give us some of the details of the $5,000 wedding
Posted on 2/3/19 at 5:23 pm to 3morereps
Ours was 75k
Sisters was around 45k
Other sister was around 250k
I wish we had a cheaper one and got a big check towards a house or vehicles.
Our honeymoon was great though and paid for.

My wife did. We wanted to throw a big party the next day for about $5k. It ended up being closer to $20k. Granted our parents chipped in. But costs add up

No alcohol
Turkey rolls from Costco
That lady on fb they vaguely know as their photographer
Nana holding an iphone as their videographer
Flowers for the wedding were stolen that day from a wake at a local funeral home
