There has been a go find me account for Montrell and his family.
His family lives in my neighborhood and there will be a vigil for him tonight.
Here is the gofundme setup for his family:
Edit: removed link, it hasn't been confirmed that the family knows about this account.

Story
Updates 1
During this time of uncertainty and imminent danger in our world, there are heroes among us. One of our heroes, Officer Montrell Jackson has fallen, on Sunday, July 17, 2016, in the line of duty in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
Montrell was a highly regarded police officer in the Baton Rouge Police Department, and most importantly, a beloved father, son, brother and friend.
Words cannot describe the devastation that we feel right now, and would ask that those who are able to please contribute to this meaningful cause in order to assist Montrell's family financially during this time of mourning. (All funds will go directly to Montrell Jackson's wife and newborn son)
Rest in Peace, Montrell, you will always be our Hero.
* I am Melissa Rose Kancov, and Montrell is my sister's brother-in-law.

I'm leery of donating...can you please get some form of verification? No insult to you, but I'm sure you understand how these things sometimes go. I want to make sure my money goes to this honorable man's family!

To the comments below, from Lindsay Allen. My wife put this campaign together out of love for Ked and his family, with his knowledge. She is giving 100% of all donations directly to the family . If you are uncomfortable with donating, please just support Montrell's loved ones in prayer. Thank you again and God Bless.

Can you provide more detailed names of how you're related to this family? Was this campaign authorized by them? I would hate to think that donations are being received from someone other than the family.

Yes...like I posted earlier...the media is cautioning everyone to be careful before you donate to gofundme accounts...and to be 10000% sure that it is legit and that you aren't being scammed.

I would have no issue rallying behind a black man who views his life as a father and role model to his children and his community.

Montrell was a great guy, you couldn't have asked for a better police officer or guy to work with. God bless the deceased and their families.

He started the nextdoor neighborhood app for our community.
He was also on our HOA board. Very active in the community. Always looking out for his neighbors.

I am stunned that someone would try to take advantage of a situation like this for some kind of fraud. That's just as sick as it can get.

I personally know many wonderful, fine, upstanding black people who do things the right way and are good, law-abiding, family-oriented people, just like Officer Jackson.
I am sure many posters are just like me and know good black people as well.
I think the main source of agitation among white people right now is that the people in the black community who are NOT like Officer Jackson are the vocal minority and they are the ones getting all of the attention.
If black leaders would come out and tell their people "you know what, Officer Jackson should be a role model for us all...let's see if we can take some of our troubled youth and point them down a path that he went down", then I think white people would be 100% down with that and be totally on board.
Instead, the world is being told by black people with loud voices (Jesse Jackson, I am looking at YOU) that Alton Sterling is a "martyr". Commentary like that does ZERO to help the situation between the races and it does ZERO to help the problems that the underprivileged portion of the black community has.
Why can't Jesse Jackson find a microphone and some cameras, hold up a large photo of Officer Jackson, and give a passionate speech to his people about the officer being a great example as someone positive for their community???
There have been some black leaders who have acknowledged that change has to come from within the black community itself....but not enough have stood up and said it. I think that would be a great start though...

You know what though? I am not stunned. And it makes me just as sad as the events of today to have to say that. It is a harsh reality that there are people out there who would do this.
