This reaction is motivated by boomers who would sell your future for an extra year or two.

This could have been a huge windfall for the US. You have all these older people burdening the system with ongoing Social Security and Medicare payments, while rich with homes & assets.
Most of the people who will die from this are people with immune systems just waiting for whatever was going to kill them to kill them. Like AIDS doesn't kill you, it only destroys your immune system so that simple food poisoning or the flu would kill you.
So boomers are so afraid that they are willing to shut the country down just to minimize the chance that they might die this year rather than a couple years from now.
I mean, I get wanting to live, but at what cost (vs benefit)? Like paying $700k for a 90 year olds heart transplant, is that $700k best spent buying that one person a couple years more, or buying several families homes that they will use for decades, or covering medical school costs for a few doctors to help people for decades?
The market will tank, the economy will struggle, unemployment will rise, crime will increase, etc motivated by boomers willing to destroy everything for their own % chance of not catching a cold that has a 15% chance of taking them out.
The windfall of cash from their deaths, the reduced SS/Medi burden, adorable vacant housing, etc...This could have been the answer for the country's debt issue, but unfortunately the debt boomers will saddle us with will be double and the inheritance will be half.
Just sucks.

Since benefits are based on contributions, you are referring to the people who actually paid for the system in the first place for that expected benefit. Social Security was never meant to be a f*cking welfare system.

You shouldn’t be in charge of allocation of resources for a Boy Scout Troop, much less worrying about the International finance markets.
You can’t write four coherent paragraphs.

So the people who made it possible for you to drive your car, on roads they built, or surf the Internet on the network they built...and a thousand other things, should give up cause you can’t make enough money to get out of your parents basement.
You really don’t have a clue how this works do you?

Couldn't be more wrong. Unless reddit is suddenly filled with boomers.
It's motivated by the 'if we protect one life' type people in general.

Can't believe you actually typed all that crap out

Does this apply to your parents, grandparents, aunts and uncles?

Sounds like somebody’s mama and daddy cut off their Starbucks allowance just because they turned 30.

Americans have become so death averse. It was simply a fact of life before modern medicine. Kid dies? Sucks, but I have 11 others.

expected benefit
Life expectancy: When they first started working they only "expected" to live to 67, every year after has been lagniappe. But now at 74, they will sell their grandchildren's souls to make it to 75.
How is there any other realistic way to look at it? The entire economy will collapse to save who exactly?

Are your ancestors from mid 20th century Germany?
