I didn’t watch many cartoons. I’m telling you, that they didn’t just sit me in front of tvs for hours upon hours. They would maybe let me watch an hour of tv during the day. The rest was either outside or doing some chore.

You may not have watched much, but don’t sit here and act like everyone else and their kids now had the same childhood as you and was outside screaming “what in tarnation!?” at every little thing we saw.

Did your parents send you outside in the neighborhood and keep an eye on you all the time? Neighborhoods have changed too. Used to be everyone sent their kids outside mindlessly with no fucts given and ‘Be home at dark’ or ‘be home at 5’ for dinner. I’m actually lucky to now live somewhere we can basically do that, but we have a neighbor girl that won’t let her kids outside without a parent watching. That’s a laughable concept for 20 years ago.
As I said in the other thread, my kids probably watch their tablets for under 3 hours a week. It’s well under daily, my kindergartener usually gets screen time on the weekends while our other kids nap. The idea there’s no middle ground in using a tablet and using it as a ‘babysitter’ is absurd.

Thing is, when you do that, you’re forcing the kids to be creative. They have to make up their own fun. They’re with their peers more often which is a good thing.

Who disagrees? For one, parents didn’t have the options back in the day. Tv literally wasn’t an option for kids programming even 25-30 years ago mid day.
But more importantly, neighborhoods were structured differently and generally the perception was the streets were safer.
You could be arrested potentially for allowing a 5-7 year old to go play outside with absolutely 0 parental monitoring if the kid gets hurt or into trouble. Would a parent get arrested for a kid doing something dumb 25+ years ago?

No, but we only have ourselves to blame for allowing things to get as stupid as they are now with how people perceive children and the parents’ roles.

Kind of reminds me of that video or fake website that people would send to their friends back in the day. It would start off with what seemed like an interesting or pleasant video, and then the video would change to this very loud screaming ghost demon girl, and it was all strobed out. Yall remember that? shite was creepy.

Because when you're watching TV in a family room you are typically watching with others, and aren't so focused on what is on the TV. When you just stick a tablet in your kid's face they focus solely on that, and can tune out everything else.
