Well I would assume he's either just flipping the burgers, or taking out the trash. And if his job does require even minimal counting, I will go ahead and bet on it being wrong anyway.

Half the people on this board couldn't pass a third grade spelling test or come up with the correct answer to this math problem if their lives depended on it yet they feel no hesitation about weighing in on climate change and evolution and a host of other subjects well beyond their ken.

PEMDAS. The answer is 9.

These are my sentiments towards the rant.

PEMDAS
It stands for Parentheses, Exponents, Multiplication and Division, and Addition and Subtraction. In that order.
It really is
1.Parentheses
2. Expnonents
Tie for 3, go left to right. Multiplication and Division
Tie for 5, go left to right. Addition and subtraction
Not saying you didnt know this, but a while back a problem came up and people were swearing multiplication took precedence over division

I was being generous. I don't remember when I learned it but I know it was grade school. Your point only magnifies the issue. Sad, really.

I don't remember anyone thinking multiplication should go before division or addition before subtraction. It was the left to right rule that was in question. I've never been taught that and have a pretty extensive math background. On that other problem I see it both ways and think that problem is ambiguous. I don't think equations should be looked at as sentences reading left to right. If they were, it would be fricking retarded to write this current problem as is. Why would you not move the 3x0 to the front and not even have to worry about PEMDAS. Just answer the whole thing left to right. The other problem lacked punctuation to differentiate between doing multiplication and division first (in my opinion since I don't use left to right often). This one doesn't even bring up that issue.

5x10/2 gives you the same answer no matter which order you do the multiplication/division.
