Don't kid yourself. All social groups have a uniform of sorts that marks them as members of that group. You simply justify your fashion choices by stating that you're making them because of comfort.

However the cargo shorts that I wear are the "normal" shorts, but with 2 extra slightly larger pockets on each side. They are the same length and same fit.

You cargo short supporters make it so easy for us refined gentlemen to pick out the trash of the OT.

Not at all.
I'll throw on whatever I find comfortable regardless of what society thinks.
I still have my own tastes and I'm not gonna go out looking like a hobo. But I'm also not gonna wear overly nice clothes 24/7 just so society accepts the way I dress.

Most of my shorts are of this variety:

And I give zero fricks that anyone thinks my cargo pockets are "trashy". They are very functional for an active lifestyle and I'm too cheap to buy shorts for every occasion.

seems like those would still be too long for an "active lifestyle"

I have a pair of NF cargo shorts (actually from convertible pants) that I wear for yard work and whatnot, but they are a normal length

Is that how you justify your mullet too? Not caring what society thinks.

What are the lulz for? I do a lot of hiking/mountain biking. Putting the stuff I need to carry below my hip doesn't impede my motion.

Maybe some context is missing here. I wear jeans and boots most of the time. Wearing shorts while going out for a nice occasion is trashy period. Depending on the quality of the occasion is the deciding factor in wearing jeans, khaki pants, or slacks. Shorts are for when you're outside working, cooking, lounging, etc. and its too fricking hot.

That was just an example of the material/ pocket style. Most of my shorts sit a couple inches above my knee.

So, its between sloppy schmuck and beta shmuck? Explain the sloppy part though, not following this.

they look sloopy, the same way a person wearing a baggy suit looks like shite, the same way someone wearing a baggy tshirt looks like crap, the same way your baggy cargos look terrible on you, you just dont know.

If you truly dont care about your appearance, fine. Wear your cargos and go about your life. But Id be shocked if there were people that really do not care what they look like. We know if that was the case here, you wouldnt be getting so defensive. It's ok to take the constructive criticism and change your shorts, man.
