While this is not far from the truth, it's also not entirely accurate. The DU penetrator itself does not explode into little pieces, but rather the armor the penetrator passes through is turned into shrapnel which can cause permanent damage to the squishy things inside. As it stands, if you REALLY wanted to liquefy the crew, HEP/HESH would be your best bet.
That comment is not exactly accurate either. As the round penetrates the tank, the outer layer of the round and the armor where it hits both become molten and shoot inward like a jet. There is some shrapnel created on the outer edges of the hole. We called this "spalling".

You'll never even hear the one that gets you.

Whats the range on that thing?

I can't believe NATO lets people use those. People should be killed softly.

What's the muzzle velocity of that thing?

North of 5000 ft/sec. The Abrams throws metal really fast.

The Sabot is a non-explosive tank round

penetrates armor then explodes
I'm confused.

quote:It's because of the sheer amount of kinetic force that the sabot round has when it penetrates the armor. That energy is transferred into heat, and some of the round and the armor it penetrates will liquify. I'm guessing it also overpressurizes the cabin of the penetrated tank. Not to mention all the spall that's knocked off from the interior of the tank when the round hits.
I'm confused.

Do they have any true armored vehicles?

As driver, is it true you had to drive at speed thru that little bridge on base? I'm assuming you were Army, at Benning. That's what my brother told me.

But we have jets and drones. We don't really need to send tanks (although Iraq has low end Abrams variants, no fancy composite armor or anything AFAIK).

The technology created to kill people is absurd.
