My 4 year old would have broken that within 5 minutes of being there. He has no sense of awareness. He runs into shite when he is standing still.
I'l grant that 4 years old is kind of on the borderline of what is reasonable to expect in that situation. Depends on the child.
If yours is immature for his age it might be more advisable for the GPs to put the vase away until the visit is over.
If he's not, just tell him he's not allowed in that room, for any reason, without you in there with him, and tell him why. And if he goes in there—whether he breaks the vase or not—then you punish him.
I suspect there's nothing in that room that would be irresistible for a four year old, so after he gets punished the first time I doubt you'd have an issue.

He eats cereal and it ends up on the floor twelve feet away from him.
(I am assuming that your child is not retarded or otherwise disabled; my apologies if that is not the case).
Once you start making him clean the cereal up instead of doing it for him he'll get motivated to stop acting like that.
And if I'm wrong and he just keeps cleaning it up and making a mess again then you punish him for doing it in the first place.
9 years old is plenty old enough to not make that kind of mess when eating.
Y'all are getting this kind of behavior for one reason only. Because you tolerate it.

Start a go fund me. Either it goes to replace the vase or it goes to a prize for the kids for not breaking it.

Kids get cash prizes now for not destroying other people's property and someone else pays for it if they do?
Anyone that finds themselves wondering why people act the way they do in society, just remember this thread.

You guys over here seem to have thinner skin than the other board. I'll dial it back.

I have two nephews who would break that thing in five minutes flat, mix the ashes contained within with water, dress their faces using it as war paint, terrorize the house for the next hour, laugh about it, get their asses thoroughly beat by their mother (my sister, no pics), laugh about the arse whooping, and then move on to pickup football in the front yard still wearing Aunt Margie’s ashes as war paint. The next 20 years is going to be entertaining as frick. Happy Thanksgiving!

Everyone year my neighbors only Christmas ornament is the leg lamp from a Christmas story. That would be the perfect place to put one. Get them one before Christmas.

Funny how it’s in front of the window like it needs sun like a plant.

Only if you're the first upvote of your post. After the first one no one really knows if you're number 2 or not.
