If there is no money in this product, Monsanto will buy up the patent and bury it.

This is a bit of an overstatement. Roundup Ready crops debuted in the mid-90's if I remember correctly.

While they're extremely helpful, widespread famine wouldn't occur if they weren't here....and I say all that as a dude from a farming family that plants the shite out of roundup ready crops and was among one of the first farms to plant roundup ready soybeans when they debuted.

My only complaint about Monsanto is that they made it where you can't collect your cotton seeds after you gin (because of the patent on roundup ready) and cotton seeds make great cattle feed.

Is no one in the thread smart enough to realize that RoundUp is a herbicide - that's a chemical that kills weeds folks...not insect pests. While interesting, I'm sure Monsanto doesnt really mind a sustainble insecticide developed from mushrooms...different business.
