If your line is buried galvanized pipe, it is likely time to replace it. Electrolysis tends to eat the metal until all you have left is literally a clay water pipe. If so, go back in with a non-metallic supply line.

If you want to play detective, follow the path of the main water supply and talk to neighbors until you get to an area with clean water. The source of the leak could be the main line or a single house with a back flow problem. The dirtier the water, the closer you are to the leak.

Also, houses of that vintage tended to use the metallic water pipe as a ground rod. Make sure the power meter has it's own ground rod and phone, cable, and metallic water pipe bond to the ground rod.

My water has bubbles like champagne, but I just drink around it

The water looks fine and is safe to drink. The brown part is just minerals, which are good for your body.

Looks like you need to clean out your shower drain while you're at it.

That would never happen over here in Texas
