For real though, if you find an $800 El Camino that runs, I'll give you $1000 for it.

You're not getting ANY El Camino for $800 or under I would think.

Get an old Jeep. You will never run out of things to fix.

Why would you insure a $800 car?

He could possibly be a responsible car owner and if he plans on using the car, it needs insurance to legally be driven. Hell, it needs insurance to even get a license plate to be put on the road.

Now if he just plans on sitting it in his driveway and learning how to work on cars, then he doesn't need insurance or even a license plate for that matter.

I do know in La. if your insurance company contact the state to inform them you no longer have insurance, the state sends out a letter demanding the license plate be returned to them.

I’d go back to the 90’s and look at a 95ish Nissan Sentra, Honda Accord or Toyota Camry if that is your plan. Those things last forever and are cheap and easy to fix.

Or go way back to the 70’s and 60’s. Those cars are actually worth working on and fixing.

You can probably get a policy for a car that's rarely driven. Get a car that can be labeled an antique and you can get insurance policies on them for dirt cheap since it's assumed it will rarely be driven.

I want a snowpocalypse vehicle. Love to get an old Toyota 4x4 and add these to it:

Is it your intent to drive it, or just park it somewhere and throw money at it?

Both. Would serve as a beater to drive around the city (ATL). Wouldn’t have to worry about it getting dinged, broken into, or worn out from the shitty roads here. Plus driving in the city traffic with the stick on my TL is a pain in the arse.

buy a vehicle that qualifies as an antique.

There are insurance markets for these that are cheap.

You can fix it up as well as restore value to such vehicle.
