My cousin use to barrel race when she was in HS and several years after. She dated 2 or 3 guys who were bull riders and they all seemed to be a little off. One of them she dated for several years, he ended up getting kicked in the jaw by a bull, broke it and had to eat through a straw for several months. He was addicted to pain pills. While dating him, she became an addict. She has been arrested a few times, couldn't keep a job because she would end up stealing money everywhere she would work.

She worked at a bar I use to go have a few drinks with some people on Thursday nights. One late afternoon her boyfriend came in to talk to her and he came talk to me. He was telling me that he was trying to get a police report because "someone broke into his truck and stole his pain meds" and the only way he could get a new prescription was if he brought his doctor a police report.

Addicts can be creative when it comes to trying to get their fix.

I rode for about two years in high school...a few things that are non-negotiable.

A quality vest and helmet are a must.
You can do everything right and still catch a horn to face getting off or get stepped on.

You're going to get hurt. Period.
Start riding horses bareback with your bull rope only....you'll learn to stay in the center quickly on a loping horse.

You mentioned having an experienced rider help you out...that's great. Don't show up to a practice pen by yourself and say "I want to get on some practice bulls"

They'll put you on their rankest bulls or the ones that act up in the chute.

Best of luck!!

i rode a bull once. it was fun/scary as hell. it was a small, polled bull , and there were plenty of people to help once i got bucked off.

but... once was enough, and there's no way i'd get on a full grown bull.

I’ve done it a few times

The smaller and quicker you are the better
Learn how to fall
Start on a mechanical and ease into it
Learn how to bareback on a Bronc

Don’t start off on a Brahma like I did, you won’t last long

Go for it but be committed. Get on every bull you can and don't be a pussy.

Generally not something you start getting into as a grown man. Have you ever rode anything?

Find a bull named Fu Man Chu.

Try to go seven seconds.

Profit?

I’m about 5-10 to 5-11 and weigh about 140, played football wasn’t exceptionally fast but I wasn’t slow either. I’m not scared to get hurt. I just don’t want to look back on my life one day and wish I did it when I could’ve.

My cousin recently married a “professional” bull rider. Pretty sure they’re both meth heads. My aunt is about to have a nervous breakdown.

Don’t forget to love deeper and speak sweeter. And don’t forget to watch an eagle as it’s flying.
