I've heard lots of stories of rich people who really have no purpose after getting rich. It's not that money makes you miserable, it's the path to that money that often takes its toll.
I hang with quite a few people that are far more well off than myself through church and kids sports.
A lot of them are fun but a good number of them are borderline alcoholics and chasing lip fillers, ozympic, and their kids around to volleyball or cheer. We vacationed with a family (also rich but a little more down to earth) to South Padre Island and a whole group of them happened to beach right next to us.
After that week I decided never wanted to chase the money that much or deal with that.

In the last 20 plus years I've had 2 kids of that caliber work for me for a short time. Both went on to do average at best for what I thought they could do. I really wish I could have found a way to motivate and then invest more into something they could do but they didn't have higher goals. They have all the tools at their disposal except the drive to be great. They are great kids thou.

This actually reminds me of something.
If a senior in HS scores a 13 on his ACT what are some assumptions you would have about him?

How good is his Spanish, and can he sell?
There are intangibles like that which can be more important than his PSAT score (which is above average, but not necessarily genius).

Oddly shaped head with an offer from Tennessee to play quarterback.

Not sure about sell, but he knows Spanish well. We are near the border.

When his buddies get their degrees and are 250k in debt he will have 250k in the bank. My plumbers, electricians, and trim carpenters are all very happy these days.
If I knew then what I know now the day I turned 16, get my GED. I’d be doing exactly what I’m doing now.
Sounds like this kid already knows.

Those interview scenes with Affleck and Damon with the "speech" were fantastic.

just scored a 1380 on the SAT this year.
That SAT score is fine, but it won't even get you noticed by the highly selective top 20 private universities in this country.
For the Goodwill Hunting level geniuses, the kind of kids who get into MIT and Caltech, the SAT is meaningless. Pretty much every kid at those institutions has a perfect 800 math score. You need to be winning national & international math competitions to be in the mix for those institutions.
