For real. Wife wanted to visit NYC during the holidays and we both agreed we were leaving on NYE to avoid that shite.

Flying out of the airport in Nepal that’s on the mountaintop.

For my 50th birthday, I went to Italy. When I got back, I already started planning my next international trip. It was to go to Nepal and do the over night, two day trek to get within eye sight of Mt Everest. The first thing you do is fly from Kathmandu to the airport you speak of. It’s considered the world’s most dangerous airport. From there, you start your over night trek of 12 hrs to the town that has a giant bazaar, and you are able to see Everest.

I was planning it for the summer of 2020, but covid killed it.

They say some people do the first trek in one day, but they are super fit.

Ive done Times Square a few times, wasnt interested in going the 1st time (because it was 6 degrees) but it definately has its magic. Yes, its a bit chaotic but I still tell funny life lesson stories on NYE when its on. Do it before u get old old. It not like sitting on a beach

Every time I scratch one off, I add two or three. The list grows yearly. Has gotten pretty long now.

edited to add:

I went back and read the posts thus far. I guess I have led a pretty good life. I have done lots of these. Not nearly all of them, but still a lot.

There is a train in Africa Called Rovos Rail, Would like to take one of their train tours. We have been to Zambia, Zimbabwe, Botswana, and South Africa just a few miles inside Congo. Would like to go back and do it the right way. They book as much as two years out.

I spent 2 weeks in the Maldives 20 years ago. Before you go, know that it is spread out over many islands, kinda 1 hotel per island, and moving between islands is a bit pricy and time consuming. But if you stay at your one hotel island you really pay for the amenities, like bottled drinking water.

Trans America Trial on a dual sport motorcycle. Essentially, a trail/gravel/forestry road system from east coast to west coast. Feel like I might be aging out of pulling it off though. Sleeping on the ground at 50+ isn't as fun anymore.

America's Great Loop. Boating trip around the eastern US. This is my retirement plan. The Mrs is on board (pun intended). Might sell the house and buy the boat.

I'm checking off one of my bucket list items in October. Will be on a metal detecting tour in England with a small group of detectorists on farmlands that had active Roman, Celtic and Viking activities. I know a lot of people will say WTF kind of thing is that? It's going to be a lot of physical work for nine days. But for me, finding relics that were last touched hundreds or thousands of years ago is the closest you can get to time travel. I have a couple friends who have done it and loved it. So if I don't do it soon, I'll be too old and wonder why I didn't go. I'll head off on the trip in six weeks!
