Sitting outside on a porch the night before the hurricane blows in.

Usually a black iron pot full of something good to eat, a cigar burning, and everyone having gallows humor even though we all know even if it's terrible it won't be all that bad.

The smell of the marsh on a cold morning as the temp rises slightly.

Grobek and bekcrawsh making a huge racket and grunting when you spook them.

Driving down highland in early spring. Windows down. Pretty women everywhere. Honeysuckle and jasmine wafting in the air.

The wysteria climbing over the porch. Attacking the confederate jasmine coming from the other side.

The smattering of French I hear in the grocery stores in far south LA.

A cute coonass girl with an accent.

The weather.

In Baton Rouge, actual temperatures usually stay between 43F and 91F.

The temps rarely go above 95F, and its rare that they go below 29F.

The average temps in January, a harsh month for the majority of the US, range between 43F and 62F. Go compare that to Cheyenne, WY or Minneapolis or Minot, ND.

Because Louisiana is the only state that has these...

I don't think some of you have ever left the state.

The thread is about things that are awesome in Louisiana, not exclusive to.

I find the weather more unbearable than the crime, litter, and corruption

The winters are extremely nice. The summers are bad, but there are cities who have it worse, whether you are talking actual temps or heat index.

Hot gumbo on a 35F January day.

Intoxicated parading.

Eating at Jazz Fest.

Go cups.

Being in the crowd walking out of the Dome after a Saints win.
