The unelected bureaucracy sitting in Brussels doing anything and everything they can to either A) keep it from happening or B) make it as painful and drawn out as possible to punish the British for being uppity to their betters?

That has more to do with the EU and the labour party throwing every possible hurdle in their way. These are the same people that think there will be no animosity if they successfully block brexit
