The EU has agreed to push back the date about 10 times already.

It was the consensus offer which all the 27 members of the EU agreed. Again, the EU has no reason to offer concessions, and the UK has consistently overestimated their strength with regard to their bargaining power. It's two different styles of negotiations, and those styles are one of the main reasons why these negotiations have been fruitless for the British.

What does the EU gain by offering any concessions?

Nothing of course. They have a vested interest in making this as painful and difficult as possible for Britain.

It's sending a message to the other countries of "think very carefully about crossing Brussels. You could be next."

No. They want to ensure that their companies get the most favorable trade terms. This literally what this is about. Goddamn, you’re dense.

But they haven't made things difficult. The UK was wholly unprepared for negotiations, and came into those negotiations overestimating their strength. The EU came up with an offer that all its members were happy with, which is difficult unto itself, and has remained committed to that offer from the beginning. They aren't moving the goalposts, or negotiating in bad faith. They've simply came into the negotiations having already worked out what they were willing to give up, while the UK has consistently floundered in terms of what it wants its post-EU life to look like.

And if you think this is all it is about, you're naive as hell.

Sure, part of it was to have it be painful for the UK but the Brits did almost all of that on their own. Getting a deal all 27 EU members could agree with was a challenge and any additional concessions to the Brits is going to be very tough to come by.

The UK vastly overestimated their leverage, leave overpromised how good leaving the EU would be, and now the UK can't find a single option they can agree to internally. It's almost like doing Article 50, without any sort of idea what was possible through parliament was foolish.

The banking center of Europe is London. Germany and France won't have a choice if they want to play hardball.

Banks and companies based in London have been quietly and not so quietly been transferring head offices and billions in Euros/Pounds out for around the last six months...the pharmaceutical industry association is gone to Holland. Business is fleeing, and business that was supposed to be moving to Britain have abruptly canceled future plans. It’s going to have a knock on effect that will last generations no matter if brexit occurs or not...Lizzie May is fricked, conservatives have splintered, this is like where Marines burn their own shite in the desert. Oh and the SNP will finally convince Scots to go with the EU. Soooo I’m not so sure ol Dave Cameron isn’t responsible for inadvertently destroying the UK...
