Sawed it right out from under the car in the middle of the night. Seriously, WTF...

Guess I'm going car shopping since it's an old car and I'm not doing a $1250 repair on a clunker.

Does anybody know if newer model cars have some sort of theft prevention for catalytic converters in case these worthless junkie thieves come back and hit my apartment complex again? Or maybe I could booby trap it?

Just weld (or bolt) a straight pipe. They don't look for that shite during inspections.

Y’all need to set up some kind of parking lot foot patrol. You will need to be trained to make arrests, conduct surveillance, and set up random checkpoints. I’d call your sheriff’s department in the morning to see about scheduling something with him on Monday.

Every day you wait is another catalytic converter down the drain.

You can buy a replacement on Amazon for $75. An exhaust shop could put it in for $100, if that.

What makes you think a new cat costs $1250?

Shouldn't be more than $300 installed. You don't want to just weld straight pipe, it will be much louder than stock.

After only removing the cat? Not likely. I know of several vehicles with no noise increase to the layman

This. I've replaced exhaust on cars I've owned over the years and went from the exhaust port to the tailpipe with new stuff and nixed the catalytic converter in the process and have never had an issue when getting an inspection sticker.

They don't check that shite.

I don’t believe you. Unless everything else around you in a 20 mike radius that isn’t bolted down is stolen, no one is wasting their time stealing cat converters.

Catalytic converters have rhodium and platinum or palladium in them. That’s why they are so expensive.

I had to put a new one on onetime $300 If that.
Mine had disintegrated internally cause back pleasure and loss of power.

I took out the catalytic converters on my truck for an offroad Y-pipe and it was so much louder I had to change out the mufflers a few months later. You'd have to be pretty clueless to imagine that catalytic converters don't dampen exhaust sound levels.

Yeah not sure what that dude is talking about.

Lot of people I went to high school with would straight pipe their trucks. Sounded like glasspacks.

Man, LNCHBOX is just getting his arse handed to him on a variety of topics today across a lot of boards. Rarely is someone so dumb about so much.
