You'd have to be pretty clueless to imagine that catalytic converters don't dampen exhaust sound levels.
Barely noticable sound wise.

Yep, just going to leave this alone. Some people have no clue.

It's impossible to remove something from the exhaust system and not change the noise. Removal will not have the effect of a true straight pipe. If anything he will gain horsepower and mpg.
Just waiting for the someone to bring up 'proper backpressure' now.

Guess I'm going car shopping since it's an old car and I'm not doing a $1250 repair on a clunker.
You sound like a city slicker.

Catalytic converters have rhodium and platinum or palladium in them. That’s why they are so expensive.
They bring about $100 when sold as scrap. There was a lot of them being stolen in the Houston area a few years ago, usually from 4X4 trucks, they sat higher off the ground making removal easier. They cut them off with a battery sawsall, takes about 10 minutes, they were even stealing them from parked trucks in places like Walmart parking lots. Got so bad the muffler shops were selling some type of cable anti-theft thing that could not be easily cut so that the thieves would be more likely to leave it alone.

It's a new thing they're doing. Slide in, saw, slide out. Gone in under 5 minutes.
If you get a new car, they'll probably be back.

Buy it back from either Craigslist or EBay. Bound to show up on one of those 2 websites.

How else do you efficiently remove the exhaust gas from the combustion chamber without back pressure

This happened to my sister outside of LSU in Nola right before a not so intense tropical storm/hurricane 5 years or more ago. It was a while back and my memory is fuzzy. Anyway, they sawed hers off a Jeep Grand Cherokee on the street in the middle of the day. Pretty bold and impressive honestly
