You could tell the nice bars in Olangapo on Magsaysay Street. They were the ones with a standby generator. The power went out in the Philippines almost every night.

Ahh, “juicy girls.” I remember how flattered I was the first time they all started asking me to buy them a drink. Bought one for a girl and promptly discovered I’d paid $20 for a shot glass of pineapple juice and the privilege of her company for the 15 minutes it took her to sip it. Then it was time to buy another.

At least these guys have the advantage of just passing through, Unlike army morons that fall in love with some juicy girl in the ville, buy out her contract for 50k, and end up with her entire extended family living with him.

What I remember most vividly about Olongapo was the shite River and the smell of the open sewers. And of course, you had a choice of either San Miguel beer, or… San Miguel beer.
