With the country essentially ahut down how can April be worse than March and May worse than April like Mayor Deblasio just said on CNN. It seems like the worst of it will be this coming week

I don't have any answers to any of this, but I know one thing: I am not listening to a damn thing Deblasio says.

Because a lot of places aren’t completely shut down yet and a lot of people aren’t staying home.

Even if that is true, there aren't a whole hell of a lot of things for those people to do. Most cities are in a de facto shut down. There are not entertainment venues to attend. No restaurants or stores to visit. Many office buildings are shut down. Most work places have closed. So where are these "people who don't care" going to go?

So are you saying all of these draconian measures aren't going to work?

The incubation period is the length of time until you begin showing symptoms. It takes a while to get very sick, and the people who are very ill could be in the hospital for weeks, which causes an ongoing reduction in beds.

Just guessing that some folks believe throwing out the doomsday and worst case scenarios will make people take the quarantine measures more seriously.
