You would think the self-loathing whites in this thread would move to Sierra Leone or Mauritania to escape the evils of their fellow white Southerners. I only care when they desecrate memorials to the Confederate troops or try to move graves. It’s counter productive to remove statues but I get some of the reasoning.... but it should have been doing decades ago and not now since it’s the cool thing to do.

The irony of Virginia taking this down is that Lee fought against against North because he couldn't take arms up against his home...

Exactly.....I imagine most people that knew Lee at the time would tell you he didn't fight for the Confederacy he fought for the state of Virginia.
There were a lot of similarities between what happened back then and what is happening today. The difference is today Americans seem to be content to sit back and let it happen, probably because we don't have to fight for everything we have like they did back then.

Having these kind of statues is an example of celebrating. Also, considering when these statues were either created or brought in from other countries (primarily in the post Civil War era) these statues were part of a broader objective of upholding white supremacy during the lily white movement, an actual movement that began during the late 19th century, which was basically backlash towards economic progress of black people at that time.

It starts with Confederates because they're an easy target. But anyone who thinks it ends there is a naive fool. Does anyone really believe people who think like The Spleen and c on z will stop with Confederate monuments? Washington, Jefferson and Madison were slaveholders...gone. Lincoln was a racist...gone. Grant and Custer massacred the Indians...gone. FDR locked up Japanese Americans...gone. JFK was a sexual predator...gone. You will never satisfy the woke mob. They will come for everything and everyone who does not meet their constantly-evolving ideology.
