These Solar Farm companies are getting out of control...

We've been recently approached by one of these Solar companies out of Texas to lease over fertile ag land in St. Landry parish so it can be converted into a solar panel farm. The proposal is total shite and doesn't even guarantee the landowners much of anything, other than years of "due diligence" and "developmental" phases.
These guys are really preying on some weak (and greedy) landowners to sign over their property so they can receive millions in federal taxpayer money. I told the representative to GTFO. I can't believe people are willing to destroy precious Louisiana farmland in the name of clean energy.
People are so gotdamn stupid!

This is happening all across the south.
These solar farms and energy companies are getting massive kickbacks from the government.

leasing land for cell towers is where it's at baw

Its a complete misuse of land. When you see the diehard green energy people on here question it pretty hard, you know its garbage

The crazy part is that these projects only have a life of around a decade. At that point the whole project is scrapped and everything is thrown away.

The proposal is for 30 years! They have to lock in the land deals now to start receiving the federal funds. Most will probably go deduct and file for bankruptcy once the White House administration changes.

The climate change / green energy people are a cult. There is no other way to put it.
Ask them to defend any of their positions or show any science (that one of their aligned scientists didn't create) and they go mute.

And that good farmland becomes useless land that won’t hold any value

Not too mention the absolute eyesore of all those solar panels. They built this big one near us and I would be livid having property right next to the solar farm and you had no say in it's use.

I've got an 80 ac farm in Arkansas that has no access to water, maybe 68 tillable. I had one offer me $1,000/ac annually. Only paid $800/ac for it 25 years ago. I thought that was an insanely good deal. It would take me several years to net $1,000/ac rent on dryland soybeans. At the end of the day we don't want to be the guinea pig, so we said no.

We could build a nuclear plant in the same footprint and produce 10000x the energy

You mention the govt money involved. I have a friend that is involved with self sustaining farms and its incredible the amount of money you can get in govt incentives with these. The production never seems to outweigh the money going in though

I think of the strip mining required to build the solar farms.
Then I think of the hysterics around building pipes (who doesn't use pipes every day?).
The hypocrisy knows no limits.

Solar and wind energy wouldn’t be feasible without these massive subsidies. Just waiting for the government to realize nuclear is the answer

I'm an engineer that works with public utilities. I've watched 1000s of MW of reliable fossil generation shut down for 100s of MW of solar power (and only produces that during a sunny noon in July). They are destabilizing the grid and are struggling to keep up with demand (as seen with the notifications that are being sent out to conserve) and it continues to get worse.

The greedy part is what you need to focus on...for both sides.

I was talking this weekend with a friend who's in the sugar industry. He travels all over the hemisphere brokering equipment deals, and he said the solar farms will eventually phase out all the cane fields in Louisiana. He said the climate is the least ideal for production, because our fields are the northern most point for growing in the West, whereas the plantations closer to the equator can produce almost year round.
