It really is.
That and land locking oilfields
Sold my neighbor 1ft of my property. He gets a cut. I get to charge more.

You mention the govt money involved. I have a friend that is involved with self sustaining farms and its incredible the amount of money you can get in govt incentives with these. The production never seems to outweigh the money going in though
I'm sure the govt regulations they have to comply with eat a lot of that money

I bet eminent domain will be attempted, somehow.

I can't believe people are willing to destroy precious Louisiana farmland in the name of clean energy.
Fun inconvenient factoid, as much as they are pushing solar on farm land if you think about it, wouldn’t that be similar to clear cutting forests since plants use carbon dioxide to make Oxygen.

Yes, rationing to be the norm

Ironically, they are also clear cutting forests to put up these farms. Granted, many of them are pine forests meant for harvest but they're still clear cutting for these farms.

what are you growing on this s fertile land?
Rice, soybeans and crawfish.

why don't you take advantage of the federal tax benefits yourself?
Its not for the landowners. Its for the energy companies proposing to build solar farms and sell to the grid.

And that good farmland becomes useless land that won’t hold any value
Then land essentially becomes a wasteland. Solar panels are considered hazardous material by the EPA. No one is thinking about the future, just the lucrative deals in front of their faces.

The proposal is total shite and doesn't even guarantee the landowners much of anything, other than years of "due diligence" and "developmental" phases
A lot of landowners don't realize how long they are locking up their land (i.e. making it so that they can't realistically sell it or lease it to anyone else) for decades for little if no upfront or guaranteed money.
A lot of the contracts that I see are really option agreements: they will pay landowners if and only if solar energy is produced from the land. Meanwhile, Farmer Brown is precluded for decades from selling to a real estate developer who wants to turn the land into a subdivision.
I think that is the real play here. Watch for these "solar" companies to come back to landowner in coming years buying the land at a steep discount because they have ruined the true value of such land with such lease option now attached to the land.

I'm guessing rice and soybeans, like everyone else.

It's not for farming soybeans and rice.

Exactly. I own 160 acres of pine timberland in Union Parish. I’m getting cards, letters, phone calls and FedEx letters with proposals to put in a solar farm on the property. This would require cutting down a 22 year old replanted stand to make room for the panels. Nope, no can do.
Damn things are ugly and ruin the countryside.

Did some due diligence work on a potential site in south AR. Beautiful piece of property that's going to be bulldozed for a bunch of solar panels. The amount of wildlife that'll be displaced is staggering as well.

Almost like agricultural subsidies huh?
No, the ag industry is still profitable without subsidies. The solar and wind industries can’t function without them

so more similar to airline and manufacturing bailouts?
Posted on 5/24/23 at 11:45 am to foosball
Does anyone in here have any real clue how these subsidies work? Lots of wrong takes as usual.

If one of these pricks show up to my doorstep.
