36.8 per 100,000.
That's about 1/4 of the Covid death rate. Why the fuss?

Strict gun laws absolutely do work.
The leave the populace open to absolute tyranny and make self defense all but impossible, but they will bring the murder rate down through attrition if nothing else.
Some of us aren't all that concerned about a high murder rate in lieu of other concerns addressed by gun control.

BR murder rate is down from last year but it still should be on that list. Easily top 10
BR is sitting at 85 homicides for the the year, after a 60 year old man was beaten to death outside of Tony’s Seafood.
The homicide count will easily hit triple digits before the years end, under SWB’s watch.
It’ll be tough to hit 150 homicides this year, however it’s BR and shite can pop off at anytime.

Memphis, Jackson, and Montgomery are not on that list. That is fascinating

May not meet the population requirement.
Baton Rouge isn't on there and our murder rate is extremely high

Baltimore and Chicago have stricter gun laws than Boston

Good to see the unqualified woman police chief of Philly doing great things.

Memphis has a Republican Mayor and because of that the crime numbers are decreasing.

I live 45 minutes away from Jackson, MS and I can assure you it (Jackson) should be on the list towards the top.

Right. New Orleans is confined to one Parish/County, while Chicago takes up more than one and is made up of some very affluent suburbs as well.
Chicago is wholly in Cook County.

Jax is slowly dropping in the ranks, but to be honest
No - it actually has a worse rate than NOLA but wasn’t included on Asher’s list bc the population is too small
My bad...I was using Jax as Jacksonville FL I see that it could be considered Jackson MS... So I proposev that to avoid this confusion ...we keep Jax as Jacksonville FL and use HOE ( hell on earth) for Jackson MS

Memphis, Baton Rouge, and St Louis don’t even take a whole county/parish. Chicago is Cook County, but not the entirety of it. There are other cities in Cook county.
Problem is that Orleans Parish as a whole is a train wreck.

Thats what I am wondering what gun laws would curtail the crime in New Orleans and the other cities on the list. Are we talking about strict gun laws on criminals like these maybe
Felon in possession of a gun? 10 years
Felon in possession of gun committing a crime? 20 years
In possession of a gun with no serial number? 10 years
Is this what we are talking about? Or are we going the whole we need better background checks so when a taxpaying citizen like me wants to buy a gun I have to jump through 40 hoops meanwhile the criminals are still doing their thing with their illegal guns.

Have lived in 4 of the top 12 including the Top 2. And that isn't even including living in Jackson, MS and Baton Rouge, LA.

The violent crime is so bad in New Orleans, that it makes Baton Rouge seam tranquil by comparison.
From the link:
Cities like Detroit and Baton Rouge are missing from the list, but Asher said that’s because he used data from cities with public crime dashboards and had more than 200,000 residents.
It turns out that as recently as 2019, Baton Rouge had a murder rate of 33.5/100k.

So...

Boston really did feel safe. I didn't realize the murder rate was that low.
Also NOLA just 30 behind NY and LA cities 15x its size.
